Hi,
I have already ordered a Vostro 1500 from Dell UK. However, I discovered today when browsing the Dell technical specifications on their web site that there is the option for an "Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD" sound system. Am I correct in thinking this is just a software update? Does it cost extra? And how do I get it? (I wasn't given this option when ordering the laptop over the phone, and I didn't see any mention of it when doing a test custom build on the Dell UK website).
Here's the info:

Can I download or purchase the software later on (after I have received the laptop), or do I have to request it in advance as part of my order ?
Many thanks...

Everyone on these boards will tell you that the Sound Blaster Audigy HD is a software upgrade and they are correct. It has nothing to do with a hardware upgrade. HD = high-definition (it's Creative's definition). Almost 99% of everyone on these boards will tell you it's not worth it and just to go with the High-Def Audio that comes included as part of the Sigmatel audio chip. I just ordered my 1420 and went with the Sound Blaster upgrade for a few reasons: a) it was only $23 bucks; b) I will get an X-Fi USB sound card if/when Creative delivers them before the end of the year; c) I did some extensive research on this upgrade's feature set as compared to the new X-Fi express card and they are nearly identical save for a very few items. No need to hog the 54 slot if I don't have to. As for purchasing it after you have placed your order, you can. You can also get it from Creative's sight for the same price or less.

I'm also considering the getting the Vostro before school starts back up, and was also confused about my sounds options. On the site right now, the only option is "High Definition Audio 2.0". I cant find a sound blaster option.
I want to have the laptop running a high end 5.1 surround system. Should I just buy "X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook" card seprately and add it myself? Or is there a better card for this? I'd use it mostly for music and gaming, not a whole lot of movie watching.
Anyone have some advice in this area? -

I ordered the Creative HD upgrade on my 1520 and it just had some advanced software features but no difference in sound whatsoever. It wasn't an option on the Vostro I ordered but I wouldn't have got it this time around.
Of course it's only $20... people see $20 and think "oh I'm already spending $800 whats another $20 for better sound!" but really it does nothing and $20 multiplied by how many people add this option is a lot of money for Dell.
