I had my heart set on a Dell Inspiron 1520 to replace my Ibook G4 here until about an hour ago. I was going through the Dell site to rebuild the notebook and look over my specs and everything when I decided to check out the "Small Business" section of their site.
I had heard of the Vostro on the forums and thought "I'll stick with the Inspiron for now". But as I'm building a Vostro I realize I can get 2GB of memory on the Vostro for $100 less then the 1GB memory on the 1520. Granted the processor is slightly less powerful but still....Whats up with that? So my question is "Is the processor gonna run slower on the Vostro?". I plan on playing some WoW and BF every now and then so I kept them with the same 8400m GS card.
P.S. Should I have posted this on the "Which Notebook to buy?" forum?(I think the Dell forums might be more knowledgeable)

if you are asking if a 7250 is gonna run slower than a 7500, then the answer is YES.
If you are asking "will you NOTICE if a 7250 will run slower than a 7500," then the answer is NO.
Typically it takes about a 20% performance boost for people to notice in everyday task. Any less and it takes a benchmark. -
Get the Vostro with 2GB if you are planning on playing games.. why not go for a 8600 while you're at it?

Oh geez, Thats been the other debate in my mind. I'm not sure about upgrading the Video Card. I've been told the 8600M is great for recent games and all but it would delay me actually getting the comp. because of the whole $150 increase. How is the 8400M? If there is some giant difference then I might think about it. Will there be a dif. WoW FPS wise?
Anyone know about some Vostro coupons? -
Actually in regard to my last post I've been thinking of the wrong card! I'm thinking of upgrading to a 8600M GS! While infact the upgraded card on the Vostro is a 8600M GT. Wow, I think I must upgrade that. The 8600M GT is a pretty nice card right? For $100 I think the upgrade is a go. Any experiances with the GT?

Well if you were planning on getting the 1520 that was 100$ more, I guess for 50$ extra you could get both 2GB of RAM and a better video card.. The 8600 supports dx10 games I think, are you going to be interested in new releases in the future? If yes then go for the 8600M.

Make sure you check out all the deals just in case you find the CPU you want, and also try configure-to-order from the non-deals page just in case the price is as good.
