dear all,
I've been using my vostro 1500 fine in the last few weeks until the last few days where my screen 'messes up' when loading vista up. It happens after the password prompt screen. I found it hard to explain in writing so I took pics. Does anyone else have this problem? What can I do to resolve it?
Thanks in advance,
VP

that sucks HARD

Call Dell.....send it back.
-
Feel so disappointed, was so looking forward for this laptop to be good as my old comp kept freezin on me!! -
Hell, just give them a call. Maybe they'll throw you a bone with that support.
-
oh mate that really sucks, call dell and get a replacement or a refund if you do not wish to get anotehr Dell.
This worries me, as I have a vostro 1500 as well and I hope it does not die on me like that...
btw. It looks like a really cool screen saver...but it's not. oO -
this is now the second one i have seen do this. one of my employee's got a 1500 that ended up with the same issue, looked exactly like that, ill ask him tomm what they told him it was he is off today
-
lol more like the worst screen saver ever!!
Zfactor I would really appreciate if you could let me know how your friend resolved his issue!

i know he called tech support and told them it looked as if the lcd had broken but it wasnt actually broken...

hey guys,
just got off the phone to a dell technician, he used that dellconnect tool to control my computer. In the 30 mins we spoke, he fiddled around with the video device drivers, chipset drivers and did a bios update. He told me to monitor the problem over the weekend and he will call me back monday. I hope everything stays well! -
I had something like that happen to an Acer laptop I had pretty recently. It happened after a Driver update on the graphics. I rolled back the driver and it was resolved. (Keep in mind these were 950gm integrated graphics, not Geforce). Maybe that will help?
-
Just when things were going fine....it happened again!!
The dell guy said he will call on monday as they are closed for the weekend, so its just sit back and wait til then! Im gonna push him to replace the laptop, saves beating around the bush looking for solutions and callouts. I also reported another problem with my laptop; the webcam used to work sometimes and other times reported as not being connected/found by the system. Id feel more happier with a new system. Will they let me keep mines until the new one arrives?? -
mines doing the same thing, its possible to fix it but its only seems to work temporarily. It gets fixed every time I update or change the graphics drivers and it does a auto restart. Its not till i turn the computer off manually the problem returns. Also works in safe mode just fine, so i don't think its a hardware problem.
-
I have that, think its profile related.
-
They have to replace your laptop. I mean it's definitely a manufacturing mistake. It sucks though to be happy that your laptop got delivered so quickly but then it becomes useless.
-
Mines came in one day, and when this happened I thought of this thread. I would have thought my refurb been all corrected. I at first thought maybe it's the connection but now I think it's software related, maybe vista and the drivers. A minute ago I thought it was profile related. It acted like it was that way, but a second ago it swapped. The good profile gave me the issue and the bad profile came up perfect. <shrug>
I'm going to probably tinker a bit more, but I will be calling tonight. I added the technician warranty. Hopefully if anything he could just come fix it up quickly. I would really like to slap a reinstall on here but what's the point if it happens to screw up again. I can't tell about the grainy. I'm not hunting for witches. I will bring it to work tomorrow and compare with a few other friends. I think there is ever the so slightest of bleeding from the bottom. The order papers say I got the Phillips LG, the device console says it's Generic. I don't know. I thought I saw grain and it turned out to be a picture blown up past it's native resolution. That's what happens hunting for witches. Get worked over nothing. I'm sure if it was that bad it would be tight in my face, after some usage.
One freaking day to get it too me. Awesome. -

Wow I thought you were gonna say it burst into flames, but that is a serious issue too! Return it to Dell right away.

Each asterix indicates a level of seriousness. *******SERIOUS*******
Would indicate a nuclear explosion... -
Looks like the video card is bad.

Heyy Guys,
Just an update...Dell told me to reinstall my factory image which I did from the partition, and the problem has not occured once, so its definatley a driver/software problem. However I had a webcam problem which could not be resolved (see my earlier posts) so they have offered to replace it! The only problem...it will take 2-6 weeks!! Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!
Thanks for everyones efforts in helping me resolve the issue!

I can't find my factory image thingy to do. I spoke to the guy and he'll help get me a new graphics card. They wanted me to send it in but I told him he's nut and he's not getting my LG.
-
I did a format/reinstall... Not sure yet if I should call and cancel the tech changing parts or not yet. Going to install the nvidia drivers back and see if it breaks down again.
-
I sent mine back after after installing windows XP and the problem happened again. I'm done with dell if they can't make a pc run out of the box after their so called stage testing then they shouldn't make a pc at all.
-
Wow... So it doesn't freeze when picking a profile, it waits until i do something for a hour. It also dropped the driver and then recovered it according to vista. The tech came and saw that screen and set the connecter might be loose but replacing the card should stop that issue. So hopefully I can get to working it out and make sure EVERYTHING is working right.
He'll be back shortly with my laptop. No place to park, so he took the laptop down the street to work on it in his car.
I hope once it's fixed I get higher than the 4.5 I was getting on my WEI. That's lame of me I know.... -
-
I don't know how to make the issue happen but I've been using it for quiet a while since the guy gave me the new graphics card. So far it's just magic.
