I don't see anything better than this deal.
I intend to take this, slap on the upgraded battery and SXGA screen and call it done.
Can i do better somewhere else?

Using Dell Home and coupon with the 1520 is better is your planning on spending at least $1000 (Coupon is 1200-300) =900+100 (tax) )

I understand 1520 is better ***IF*** you plan on spending 1200.
But the vostro 1500 smart value comes prepacked with everything you need, and it costs 599!!!
The only thing it's missing for me is 1680x1050 resolution, 2GB of ram (which i already own and can put in), and the built in webcam and bluetooth is nice. -
* Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache) (Vostro has T5270)
* Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Premium Edition
* Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
* 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT
* 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
* 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
* CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
* Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
* Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
* 85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
Dell Home 1520 $918 vs $1092 Vostro 1500
Basically if you put your own RAM (approx $50) and do the resolution upgrade(+100) , bluetooth(+20), and webcam (+20) Vostro goes to $800~
Now the Dell Home one you basically get $400 worth of upgrades from the $800-$900 for only an $100 more. -
who cares if you get $400 worth of upgrade if you are getting the exact same thing on the vostro for a cheaper price. just adding the 8600gt to the 1520 pushes it over $1000
-
That "$400" worth of upgrade statement is a bit misleading. You had to try to build a VOSTRO to match your Inspiron build. I don't intend to spend on all those upgrades.
I may just do bluetooth, webcam, and 1440x900 resolution which comes out to 739.
I don't intend on upgrading the vid card which i hear is gimped.
1stStrike, is there any difference between Inspiron and Vostro other than color and casing material? -
AFTER coupon, the Inspiron 1520 goes to $900. What I'm saying is you can get more upgrades.
With those upgrades you wanted, 1440x900, webcam, and bluetooth it comes out to $969. You have another $250 to spend on upgrades on the 1520 to whatever. Of course, if you feel like putting the extra $100 in for $250 worth of upgrades, it's totally up to you but what I'm saying is that it's better bang for the buck.
Also, with the Inspiron 1520, you can get the free remote if you use the Dell chat and also the $100 refund if you try with the 8600M GT.
The two systems are the same though, just that Vostro has less trialware and with the Inspiron 1520 you can pick your own color. -
Is this offer still valid amigos? I don't think so. Did you purchase this?
