So, I am having a problem with closing the lid of the laptop while the laptop is on. For example, lets say I wanted to walk off for 15 minutes, i would want to shut the lid of the laptop so like it's on standby. When i do this, and open it up again, i would press multiple buttons but nothing works. I see some of the lights on but there is just nothing on the screen. I would then have to hold down the power button to turn off the laptop, and turn it back on. When i get into windows, my settings are changed to the Lowest Resolution possible which is 800 by 600 and color quality is changed to like 4 bit or 8 bit.

What is the problem and how do i fix this. There are many times where i would want to just shut the lid and have the laptop on standby instead of shut down.

Please if anyone is having any issues with the vostro let me know how you fixed this! :(

You wouldn't "need" them, but they can give improved performance a bit. But they sometimes cause problems like the one you are describing.
