    Dell Vostro 1400 boot to blank screen

    Hi i have a dell vostro 1400. i clicked the dell mediadirect button by mistake while the computer was hibernating. mediadirect started fine but after exit from that the computer never started in normal mode. whenever i tried starting in normal mode it seemed to boot alright with windows logo and everything. but it ended with a mouse pointer on a black screen. i tried system restore (but it says no restore points, although i had created many at regular intervals) also safe mode doesnt work (same black screen with mouse pointer there too) I have ran the bootrec with fix mbr and rebuilt the bdc and I am still not able to boot into windows Vista. I tried searching but not able to find anything thanks for the help.

    did you try a "repair" w/ the Vista install disk?? That should work.

    Ya I did the repairbdc with the bootrec but that did not work. also ran the bot repair and it said that it didnt find any issues

    I am having the exact same problem on a one month old Dell Inspiron 1525. My wife hit the mediadirect button just like you did, and now the computer will not boot - black screen with the pointer only. Did you ever figure it out?
