Here is my Dell Vostro 1400 Review

    Specs

    Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 1.60GHz 800Mhz FSB 2MB L2 Cache Was Given wrong processor from 1.4 to 1.6Ghz
    2GB DDR2 @ 667MHz 2X 1GB
    14.1 WXGA 1280x800 no TrueLife
    160GB HD @5400rpm
    DVD+RW Drive
    Intel GMA X3100
    Windows Vista Home Basic

    Price $694

    Design and Build Quality

When I received The Vostro 1400 I wasn't expecting a tough build quality but a cheap plastic casing with creeks, but I under estimated it. The notebook felt very solid through out. No creeks or crackles of any sort. The bottom casing felt very strong like a tank.. The lid was very firm and the hinges were very tight. Im very Impressed with the Build Quality. The weight is about 5.6 lbs which is about average for a 14 inch notebook. Design of the laptop is plain but a pretty professional looking laptop. You certainly couldnt call this ugly
    Screen

The screen is a 14.1 WXGA 1280x800 with no Truelife. The colors are pretty nice with decent color and brightness is also pretty fair. For the price the screen is nice and comfortable to view without feeling like you have a cheap screen with washed out colors. The Viewing angles are acceptable but colors wash out when you turn your head left or right.

    Keyboard and Touchpad

The Keyboard feels pretty nice a typical dell laptop keyboard. The feel didnt seem any different from my XPS M1210, Latitude D810,XPS Gen 1. The keys are nice and responsive and its quiet compared to my Pavilion DV9500t. The touchpad is nice and wide and it also has a nice feel. however the touchpad buttons can be a bit small for people with big fingers but otherwise liveable

    Ports and Connections

Theres plenty of ports and connections for this size of a laptop at this price range theres 4X USB ,VGA, Firewire, S-Video,5 in 1 Media Card Reader, 2 Headphone jacks and 1 Mic and Line in

    Performance

The performance out of a 1.60Ghz Core 2 Duo can get most of your everyday tasks done. Installed Microsoft Office and ran without a hitch. Also Installed Photoshop CS3 and it performed with no issues. Its 4 Secs Slower Then my Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.20Ghz but hey for this price range for a Core 2 Duo You cant go wrong.

    Conslusion

Its a very nice laptop for the money. It packs very good performance at a very low price. Overall a very good purchase indeed. If you,re in the market for a nice and reliable laptop for a low price this is is definately worth a look at.

I just wanted to add my input, as I just purchased a Vostro 1400 as well.

It is a very nice laptop indeed. Unfortunately, I will be returning mine for a XPS M1330 for the reasons listed below.

    Vostro 1400 Pros:

    -GREAT value for the money
    -Sleek, minimal black design
    -Blue LEDs
    -WXGA+ screen sharpness
    -Solid feel
-Cool temps, really cool temps (one of the biggest pluses)
    -4 USB ports
    -Nice keyboard

    Vostro 1400 Cons:

    -No fingerprint reader option
    -No HDMI
    -Little heavy
-WXGA+ screen viewing angles (you must be right on to take advantage of screen)
    -Cheap plastic materials on case
    -Cover is a fingerprint magnet

Like I mentioned earlier, it truly is a great value for the money and I will miss it. It's just that I really want a fingerprint reader built in, I want HDMI and the case materials (including the fingerprints) drive me crazy as I am a little anal when it comes to the overall "feel" of a laptop.

Hopefully the XPS M1330 will meet my standards.
