Good buy? The only question I have is if the 5270 (1.4GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) proccesor is good. Everyone else seems to have the 1.6GHz.

What kinds of tasks will you be doing on the Vostro 1400?

Web browse, school papers, some Photoshop(CS1), itunes, limewire, Counter Strike Source, AIM, winamp, some DVD's. Just normal 18 year old stuff.

This will be great at any of those, maybe not all at the same time :), but CS Source will run pretty much at max, if not highest settings.

It definitely is a good buy,. I got a similar machine, same processor, hasn't come yet, but it should perform everything you have there very well.

You are good to go. Sufficient CPU. Price went up by $40. You should feel lucky. One web page had the x3100 and 160GB drive and system was $549. Was about to order that now I end up with same system as you for $599.
