I have a Vostro 1400 which I bought from dell by last august...Currently my laptop is over heating and it is reaching uptp 80- celcius. I am giving a little bit of background of what I did to my laptop.

I didnt have any problem until I installed XP removing Windows Vista... When I installed XP i upgraded my BIOS version to A07.. After somedays I noticed my games becoming slow whrn I played it for 10 minutes or so.. I figured out that my laptop becomes heated up abnormally and hence the games are becoming slower.... I then down graded to A03 but that didnt fix the problem... after a few research in vain I again downgraded it to A00 to see if it is fixing the issue.... but unfortunately it didnt... finally I tried installing I8kfanGUI.exe to force the fan to run faster and then I figured out that I had the problem with the second fan .. No matter I force it to run faster it is not exceeding 922 RPM. Also the I8kfanGUI application is giving a message that it cannot change the speed of the seconf fan.... My Laptop is heating up so badly and is making me more concerned that I am going to fry my laptop..

I would appreciate if any of the gurus can help me in fixing this problem in my laptop.. many thanks in advance.

As far as I know, the Vostro 1400 only has one fan.

If you've had the laptop since last August, it might need to have dust cleaned out.

The vostro 1400 has only ONE fan.

In i8kfangui use manual fan control and then click enable first fan control. put the setting to high and click Apply.

If this doesn'y work, either your fan is dying out, or the fanmotor is clogged, as chelet says, with dust.

This can be fixed quite easily. Best to call a Dell technician since, your laptop will still be under warranty.
