I am looking for a second small laptop. I was thinking netbook but now consider 13'. I noticed that the Vostro 1310 is $599 with very decent spec and Inspiron and XPS 13 are a few hundred more expensive.

I guess that's because the Vostro uses Morem CPU. If I go to Outlet, I can grab a Vostro 1310 for $4xx. If there is a coupon going on, the deal is even sweeter. I know XPS 1310 has much better build quality but how about Vostro 1310 vs Inspiron 13, if I don't care about CPU difference?

    Thanks!

I would put the Vostro at or a bit above the Inspiron line.

I did. Dell website has a great price on Vostro 13, well, comparing to Inspiron and XPS. I was wondering how big the gap is between these machines.

Except for the chassis construction material, Inspiron 13 looks identical to a _XPS _M1330, configuration and even the port locations are same; there is a good chance that internal components are same too. So in essence an Inspiron 13 could be a _XPS _M1330 in a plastic chassis. Here is a review.

But I don’t think there is a significant difference in the overall build quality, so I’d go with the cheaper Vostro. In any case stay away from the NVIDIA Geforce 8400M graphics card, especially of you are note buying an extended warranty.

Vostro is a less flashy looking business line for less price. I'd go for the Vostro over the Inspiron
