please do not post misinformation -
unless are you referring JUST to Vista?
Because I have a copy of XP MCE up stairs that is SPECIFIC to dell and wont install elsewhere on nondell. -
The OEM OS Discs do not have bloat or any junkware on them. They're JUST like a retail disc but they are meant to be installed only on a Dell computer. Hence the "OEM" copy.
-
Ok, But they are in reference to this thread the OEM disk is NOThing like Retail since they are intended for Dell Pcs only.
and then I will retract my comment about the bloatware. -
Other then the fact that Dell's OEM disc is Dell Specific, as is the case with HP's OEM disc for HP computers along with other vendors, the OEM disc contains the same media as the retail disc.

A Retail DVD Means it will function in ALL Pcs
An OEM Dell/HP cd means it will NOT operate in all Pcs.
Clearly made to point.
My point of this thread is, Will an OEM Serial Function in a retail OS.
Why dont you stop posting nonsense in threads that you cant even answer the original question. You were wrong because you said that an OEM disk is the same as a Retail disk. Which confirmed by me And Matt says that OEM disks are proprietary to their manufacturer and intended system that they are sold to. -
However, the dell oem disks have 1 key built into them that is automatically used. It is NOT the key that is on the bottom of the laptop. The key that is on the bottom of the laptop is not activated. If you wish to use that key, you will have to call up microsoft and explain what you are trying to do (good luck). It is there more to prove that you purchased a license, even though you use the same key all other dell vista users are using. -
There are dufferent serials for OEM and Retail... Hence all the different Serials out there on the internet... OEM/Retail/Upgrade yada yada yada...
-
just confirmed, with my non Dell Disk I cannot use my Dell MCE Serial.
-
Thanks for confirming what we already knew and said.
-
I'd like to add fuel to the fire and ask if i can install my DELL vista premium onto another dell that came with DELL Vista home basic?
-
I already had to prove that an Oem disk is not the same as a Retail disk.
I did get the serial to function in an OEM setup by changing the key base in the PID in the registry.
Dell Vista Serial. Oem DVD
