I've recently recieved my new XPS M1330 (^_^) and I have been scouring the internet. From what I've read, the dell supplied 32bit Vista Ultimate OEM product key, is able to activate a 64 bit version of vista as well, provided its only used on one computer and that u can acutally get the disc.

I'm just looking for confirmation on whether people have successfully used a 32bit oem key to activate a 64 bit vista and I'm also wondering where I can get my hands on a 64bit disc. I've tried the Windows Vista Alternate Media, site but when I enter my product key, it says offer not valid.

    Thanks.

An OEM key will NOT get you a 64 bit version of Vista. A retail Key will.

Not true. See the Clean Vista Install WITH NO ACTIVATION thread in the HP forum:

I replaced 32-bit Vista Home Premium with 64-bit using this method. Lateral moves from 32-bit to 64-bit are OK, but going from, say, 32-bit Vista Basic to 64-bit Vista Ultimate aren't allowed.

    exactly..........

and if you use the OEM key that Vista came pre-installed with, you never have to use the key off the bottom of your laptop

    just follow orev's guide........
