I ordered a Inspiron laptop and it's estimated to be shipped in mid January 2008.

If I cancel the order BEFORE it is shipped, will they charge me for anything?

No, even after you receive it you still have 30 days to return it with no fee.

It is 21 days from the date specified on the packing list (usually the day it actually ships) in USA. You can return afterwards (the maximum time limit is not specified but Dell decides it on a case to case basis) for a 15% restocking fee.

On another note, they will under special cases except them well past the return period but you may be subject to greater depreciation value due to age on your product, not just the 15% restocking fee.

In case the timing is important, note that sometimes it will arrive BEFORE their expected ship date. Mine certainly did - by about a week!

Your time starts from the day the computer actually ships from Dell and not the estimated shipping date or your actual delivery date.
