I don't suppose anyone has any sort of idea? I've not asked our business rep but I doubt he'll reveal anything.

I suppose I'll hang on. The UK site is a bit sparse when it comes to configuration at the moment. For example you can't choose different screens for the M1530 (apart from the blu-ray model) in the home section but you can on the SB section. Was it always like this?

It never used to be like that. It was some time in January that they removed the option to select different resolutions on all but the highest end m1530. I guess their supply of the 1440x900 is low in Europe or something. However I do believe you can still spec a system with 1440x900 over the phone, so that's worth a try.

It sucks, we can't freely migrate to the USA from the UK!

We get put into some dumb lottery for a green card, if your lucky enough to get one you can move.

    Yeah but you can also apply for a number of different types of Visa to bypass this mental lottery system;

Such as Business and go there to work - once you have worked for a number of years you can begin to apply for a green card if you want to become a permanent resident with no restrictions. It is a long and complex process...... and one I am about to embark on within the next year or so.

Also we still have the Visa waiver - so we can go to the states for 3 months no questions asked - find a job and apply for a Visa over there.

Unfortunately the whole process got a lot harder after 9/11 because some of the terrorists came from the UK....... the favouritism we use to experience for this type of thing got removed and it’s understandable.

Question - does anyone know if it is easy to get an American keyboard for your laptop and fit yourself, preserving the warranty?

Yes, over the phone you can. But not online! Bizarre...
But honestly... eugh... after my experience, just not worth the hassle.

I have £1K for a new Penryn laptop - and have been waiting since Jan to buy something. Moving to the states is a bit drastic but may indeed be quicker than dell getting it's arse into gear!

My Dell 6000 is falling apart, just last night I had to glue the screen together, Araldite is wonderful thing. :)

Sony has just released all of it's Penryn computers and the AR61S seems to tick all the boxes, T8100, 1440x900, 8600GT (512MB) and if it was a 15" I would have ordered it last night.

The promotions supposedly end tomorrow for the Dell XPS M1330 i think that there is a slim chance that they may introduce the Penyrn processor tomorrow.

Actually they end at midnight tomorrow, the current offers are still going to be there for the whole of tomorrow.

When you wake up on Thursday you'll be able to see if Penryn is finaaally available in the UK.

Also increased the price and made CCFL the default option on all the options - no change on the m1530 though - bummer.

The notebooks are getting better, but I'm still going to hold off even more now until.

    1. the price drops
    and
    2. M1530 gets LED Option
    or
    3. M1330 gets 1440 x 900 like the IBM x300

In the mean while, i'm enjoying Overclocking my new Quad Core PC :)

They are pretty expensive, there's a 10% voucher so it's not too bad. Is the 9300 worth an extra £80 over the 8300?

Well I would rather a T9300 with the 6mb cache - but the diff in price between T8300 and T9300 retail is only £40-00 so Dell is making a 50% markup on this upgrade.

For some reason I cant get my 6% EPP discount to work with XPS deals anymore -bummer.

Sorry to sound like an a** but Dell are actually charging 100% more for the upgrade compared to intels pricing... very cheeky.
