    Hi,

Apart from the price, why is that Dell US has more options configurable on the XPS M1530 than the UK

Firstly, the Alpine White, where the hell is this option in the UK and is it ever coming back?

Secondly, no 3GB RAM option in the UK.

Thirdly, very few systems give you the choice of selecting 200gb 7200rpm, you have to phone the sales team.

Fourthly, no high screen resolution options, again you have to call them.

By calling them, you then have to haggle to get the 10% discount and they want to see proof you have the 10% voulcher and you lose the chance of 5% quido too and getting them to give another 5% is very hard.

As a result, i simply cannot get the right system online nor if i call them

Dell is a US-based company, that could be the reason.

also, the US machines are built in Malaysia, and the UK machines are built in Ireland! So it might not be cost effective to ship all the parts to the Ireland when they are not in very high demand!

If enough people complain, then they will sort it!

There are many other options too like this on various systems.

Options like Alpine White surely would be in demand in the UK.

I totallllllllyyyyy agree with bbasra. Also the 320 GB(5400 RPM) hard drive option is also not available for the M1530.Btw bbasra what sort of proof do they ask for when you want to use the 10% discount code over the phone.I received the code from an email sent to me by DELL.

umm its more expensive because you are in the U.K

you are not really being cheated if you think about it.
you earn more than an american with a similar job
dell have to pay there staff more in the uk ie engineers and people in ireland

thats all i can comment on the prices
for options well aplpine white looks sh*t (mac wannabe) and the 3gb of ram well yh thats not too gd bu what do you need more than 2 for a laptop that wont really be playing games. (vista never even goes over 1Gb usually)

Even though Dell's are assembled in Malaysia, try getting any of the advanced options through their Malaysia website, it'd be a good few months after the availability in the US site.

Okk then what about the higher resolution screens and the 320 GB harddrive.None of these are listed on the website. As far as i know by calling them you can only get the 1440*900 screen resolution.Whether alpine white is s*** is a matter of choice.I would probably go with the black but the point is, the option SHOULD be available.I would probably let them go with the 3 GB RAM option but i want the other options available on the UK website.

I sympathize with you. I was born and raised in the UK, but moved to Atlanta when I was 21 some 4 years ago. Everything, be it electronics, movies, TV always seemed to reach the UK late, was expensive and without as many options. It seems the Dell options follow suit.

Do not despair though, what I'd give for websites like play.com or gameplay here in the USA. 360 or PS3 games are a rip off, as is electricity and natural gas (compared to UK rates), its all monopolized where I live, and don't even get me started on US dairy! Enjoy your cheddar and eat it. To all those that might berate me, I love living in the USA, its so sunny!

They asked where i got the discount code from. Emailing them just the code as proof is not good enough and saying it's from Hotukdeals is also not good enough as they won't honor it.

Never had this issue when i used a 10% code back in June last year.

How did you get a 10% code from Dell via email. i've subscribed to all their email offers and never had a email with a code. That email would be fine as proof and you can just forward it back to them sales rep, but you'd lose the 5% via quidco unless you can get them to offer more discount. they wouldnt do it for me!

    Good Luck!

Where ever dell laptops are made should not be an issue with what options you get.

You should still get the options as elsewhere but maybe at a higher cost and if you can get some over the phone, they should also be on the website too, ie 200gb 7200rpm and High Res Displays upgrades. Just very anoying!

if they can update the US site with the midnight blue color option, why can't they add the High Res options on the UK.

Dell just sent me the code via email at 12 am on the 3rd and at that time it was not even listed on dmxdimension. However last month I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1520 for my gf,donno may be that's the reason.

 $60 (US price) Vs $80 (£40 - UK price. And the RRP is actually £50, so $100).

I completley agree, it is incredibly frustrating that Dell has not released the same options across all regions, esp during the Jan sales. I'm waiting for the XPS m1530 with screen option > 1280x800, preferably 1650x1024.

What I find even more annoying is that I know Dell UK has these options, as some other users have ordered by phone, so why not add them to the website!?

I can only imagine that Dell is trying to squeeze as much out of us as possible during the so called Janurary sales. Before hitting us with costly screen options and penryn upgrades.

I guess Jan 9th these options will become available as that is when all the discounts come to an end....

You can get 3GB RAM in UK (at least you can with M1330). You need to phone up and speak to a Sales rep though.

Yes we are aware that you can get better configurations if you call them up,but the point is (as mentioned in the first few posts) that we want the options available on the Dell UK website just like the Dell USA website where all the configuration options are available. But even then not all the options are available over the phone even in UK.

And you can't use quidco to possibly get another 5% discount if you call dell up. And getting Dell to give another 4-5% is very hard work!

And lose your precious guarantee... That's not the good solution. Maybe if you buy 1 year NBD then you can easily switch after 1 year without any doubts, but losing 3 or 4 year NBD guarantee is something to regret.
BTW I asked dell serviceman how much the operation of official exchanging the CPU (without guarantee loss) costs and he said about 400 PLN without tax (which is about 160 $ without tax) and this only labour, so it's payable.

So what's the delay - is it...

    - Intel has a problem with the Penryn and so shipment is slow (this seems unlikely as Sony, Lenovo, HP etc are all shipping ok)
    - Dell has a load of stock of T7xxx procs, this seems unlikely as they only order parts required for builds.
    - Intel has a load of old T7xxx that they are selling on the cheap to dell to shift to unsuspecting customers - this seems the most likely
    - Dell has a new line up of XPS M1335 and M1535 that they're waiting to launch with Penryn and LED screen (seems highly unlikey)
    - Dell has a very slow integration and validation process - this seems unlikely as they would have been given months to prepare by Intel.

    Any other ideas ?

I went to college with Michael Dell. His college girlfriend CHEATED on him with an Englishman. On that day I remember him swesaring to God in heaven, that he would somehow get his revenge. This is why Dell UK doen't not get the same options or discounts....love is a crazy thing.

To swallow the thing easy... If you ever go to Dell India site..You will be amazed that how small options are there... Atleast UK plople gets all the laptops line up there(we dont have XPS 1730,1710,Vostro 1700) though to pay more... Hah.. What can I say?? Hope that Dell will understand that business and love dont come side by side.. hha

I have just brought my dell in the UK .I am origionally from new zealand , and I have looked up the configs for the 1530 on dell nz webiste.
We get everything the USA gets , 200GB HDD 7200 option plus 320 gig 5400 HDD on base config , wireless N already built in (not extra cost like UK) , 3 gig ram already built in (UK only 2 gig )and arctic white colour option.
However mine was 1900 NZD in UK while it was $2500 in NZ

I don't personally think this is worth it but rather than waiting for penryn in UK you can just go ahead and buy the processor and insert it into the laptop when it arrives. Changing the processor in xps m1330 is very easy. There are big discounts for xps m1330 at the moment (eg £130 discount for the upper model) that almost equals the price of the lower penryn chip set. You can then sell the chip that comes with the laptop.
