Getting a notebook delivered from Dell UK tomorrow- noticed that with certain discount codes it is now available for £90 less than I have paid. Is there any chance dell will either refund me the difference / offer me anything extra at this point if I contact them tomorrow?
Otherwise can I return my order under the distance selling act? Just looking for ideas as to what I can do!??
-
Yes, call them and tell them that you would like to use a copoun that you have mist.. this would 100 % if you useing there preferred acount ... not sure about credit cards..
and yes you can tell them that you would return it ,,, doesn't hurt to try..
in the end you don't have to return it if you don't want to wait another 2 weeks. -
Just return the unit and order the same unit for less... -
Cheers- just out of interest... if they say they won't help, how much do they charge as a restocking fee if I return it?
-
I'm in the UK too, so im not talking about Dell US! -
Sounds good! So, what's my best plan of attack- state that I have noticed it is cheaper now and want a refund of the difference (threaten to cancel if not)? Or try the nicely nicely approach and say I forgot to add it originally (however I did finalise my order on the phone- not sure if that changes anything)?
Anyone know of the best department / number to contact at dell uk for this?
Cheers -
just explain the fact you stillw ant it,but can easily just send it back straight away and order the exact same machine and save £90 on it,and thats a bit silly for both you and dell, im sure youl be able to make them just refund/credit you the £90 !

Right, dell won't do anything for me- they say I have to return the notebook i have just received and then re-order at the lower price...
Is there nothing I can do to get around this?? Seems ridiculous to be honest.
For the sake of £90 I don't know if I can be bothered.
Oh, and if i open / use the notebook- will this affect my rights to a refund? Doesnt the distance selling act cover me to open it? -
anyone? At this rate I might just reorder :-/
-
does anyone know of any good coupons apart from 10% off for dell uk.
BTW re-order if u have the time otehrwise leave it -

You could try calling 0870 366 4033, you get a UK rep, might be more helpful!!
-
argghh- U sure about that? Seems wrong if i setup myself asa a user etc and then return it? They said there would be no charge to return it- is that true?
Thanks for the help guys! -
They will come and collect the system, free of charge, but...
I requested a refund on the 18th for an M1330 system (due to faulty system, refurbished replacement parts and the XPS support being completely useless). They said that it would take 3+ weeks for me to get my money back, 1+ weeks for collection (I would be called to arrange this), then 1+ weeks to have the system checked, then a few days for the refund to appear on my card.
At the time the laptop was still in bits from a failed engineer call, they said it would have to be reassembled before it was collected, however I received a call on 24th asking if it had been collected on the 21st as they had sent a courier round!!! I mentioned to them it was still in bits and I wasn't there as they were supposed to have called me first to arrange the pick up date, the rep actually suggested I should call customer service to find out what was going on, I told her that I didn't consider this my problem, they should be more organised internally and to call me back when they had sorted themselves out. The engineer showed up today and it's now back together, no idea when to expect the courier though and/or if I will receive a call beforehand!!!
Dell have to be one of the most disorganised companies I've ever dealt with!! -
So i'm alright to open the manuals / use the notebook before I return it? They are supposedly picking it up on friday so wouldnt mind a bit of a look!
If I setp a new user etc- can i get it back to how it first started? So they cant tell it has been used? -
-
Erm so are we sure I can use it and still get it refunded?
-
In the UK you have 7 days under the Distance Selling Regulations Act 2000.
Yes hope this helps. -
Does this mean I can unpack it and turn it on?
-
Hope this helps. (But do ask your sales rep). -
Are we sure about the above? I cant ask dell today- surely they'll just format it again on return so im fine to use it?
-
Logic and the law says yes, you can thoroughly examine the unit and then return it under the distance selling regs.
However, in the knowledge that what can go wrong will go wrong, and for the sake of an easy life, I'd prob leave it boxed up and not touch it.
It's your call really - I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem. -
Just incase anyone wondered- dell replied and have informed me it is ok for the notebook to be used even though it is going back for a refund.
