Okay, so after browsing the dell site looking for the best deal I was able to get this 1530 XPS Dell:

    XPS 1530 - Business Model - £774.22

    - I was able to select a screen i wanted, one better than the xps home model
    - its alot cheaper (by about 100GBP)

    XPS 1530 - Home Model - £879.02

    - same model
    - expensive by about £104
    - poor screen

    How I saved £104?

    - Goto the Dell Website
    - Small Business section
    - XPS model
    - Select the cheapest model [£449]
    - Customize
    - Checkout
    - For the business name enter your own name / usage: home

Is that including VAT with the business site? They usually add the VAT after the product has been added to the basket and not before. Good deal if it is.

does ordering on the SMB site versus the home/home office site really make a difference (besides pricing and options of course)? i never figured that out

The prices include VAT. I've ordered the Business model and I am 100% sure :p

Well the key differences I noticed were:

    a] cheaper price
b] options of the 1440x900 screen, the home version didn't offer it.

I'm not sure why dell does this as most people will want the cheaper options with better equipment??? *sighs*
