Just noticed that the Dell U.S. Home website is offering the latest dual core 9300.
But the new model number is now the Inspiron E1705. Preliminary ship dates are 2/1/2006
Looks like a pretty decent machine. It's defintely making me think I should have waited 6 months before purchasing my current 9300!

Tell me about it! Mine is not even a month old. Under the small bussinness site is the I9400. I tried the $750 coupon on the Home site and it went through bringing the system down to $1663 (base configuratio + DVD burner) but then again, it's up to Dell to see if the coupon is valid for the new system too. I find odd no bluetooth option.

Its the i9400. the i9300 wont have dual core.
-
I noticed it under the 9300 model at the home Dell site.
-
I can't find it... can you please post a link?
..... Found.... it is listed as a 9300 but then it says E1705 lol sorry
OMG a 7800 go for about 2000 bucks come on i can't wait!!!!! -
the i9300 has the intel 915 chipset for single core and the i9400 have the intel 945 chipset for dual core.
-
Preliminary Ship Date: 2/13/2006.
I bet I'll have to wait till march to order it here in mexico -
yes, hopefully the 7800go will be a upgrade for i9300 users
-
I bought mine through the company and was able to use the coupons even though I'm located elsewhere. -
MMM...let's see...A dual core 1.86 costs like a single core 2.0 on Intel site. Looks like a good price to me.
The new things added in Inspiron 9400 are:
1. Dual core with 667 bus, 945 chipset
2. 667 DDR2 memory
3. New wi-fi card...still Intel, though
4.SATA HDD
5.7800 go
Cons:
1. No bluetooth option...it would be nice a 2.0 +EDR
2.Memory and HDD upgrade options are way to prohibitive...Too bad you can't bye it with 512 DDR 2 dimms at a lower price and buy the memory elsewhere...Or at least with 1 GB 1 dimm at a decent price.
3.NO Built-in VOIP capability
4.If you plan to upgrade from a 9300 and plan to save HDD 7200 RPM and memory to put in new 9400, FORGET IT. No compatibility: SATA and DDR2 667.
5.Same design, no built-in camera ( it would be nice! )
6.Screen upgrade from wxga to wuxga is 25 more it was on Inspiron 9300( 149 versus 125 ). Why?
7.7800 is GO, not Ultra, not GTX -
All they wanted with the Inspiron 9400 was the mobo, chip and video card change from Inspiron 9300

Up close and real pics of the e1705 that's now available on Dell.com website can be seen here

Thanks to nesbo for catching this earlier in the day! -
Here's a system someone came up with. Got my 9300 three days ago. Wondering if I should retun it and "upgrade" to this new model!

Not a bad setup and a good price. I got mine a little over a month ago, I am good for now and I will buy later this year. The P-M is good enough for me right now. The core-duo isn't really a necessisty at this time.
