Anyone?....

it is a portable TV tuner that plugs into an available ExpressCard slot on your laptop, granting you access to free over-the-air ATSC high-definition TV content.
comes with a portable antenna for signal reception but it is recommended to buy a stronger antenna
also go to antennaweb.org and put in your address to see what's available over-the-air
can also be used to recieve clear QAM signal from your cable outlet
one of the best indoor antennas i know of is http://antennasdirect.com/DB2_Indoor_antenna.html -
works with xp or vista media center
although these things usually come with their own software
i would still recommend u use media center especially on vista -
Thanx for the info I think I'll try it.

AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress (HC82U)
The AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress, honored with the 2008 CES Innovations Design & Engineering Award in the Video Accessories Category, embraces the interface of 54mm ExpressCardTM. This device allows users to view both Analog and HDTV on their ExpressCard compatible Laptop. Its thoughtful Slim-Fit design inserts completely into the ExpressCard slot, leaving no protrusion of the unit outside of the laptop. Furthermore, with the advanced H.264 recording compression support, the AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress significantly reduces the amount of hard disk space needed for recording and enables users to save video to an iPod via the 320x240 resolution. -
actually all a tv tuner can do is capture/receive analog and/or hdtv signal.
the recording/encoding is done by software.
so the H.264 recording format which i agree is a great hdd space saver actually only depends on the software you use.
unfortunately windows media center both on xp &vista do not support this recording format.
but there are other good alternatives which support this space saving format
do some research... -

Someone should tell Dell Inspiron Tech Support this.
Dell offers the AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress ATSC TV Tuner with the Inspiron 1720 notebooks, for example, running VISTA Home Premium. It is currently your only TV Tuner option with this system.
