    Hi All,

Anyone who is going to buy a new notebook please have a look at the following first :

    http://www.matbennett.com/tech/dell-truelife-screen.php

Would you still go for a truelife screen ?If so why ?

For existing notebook users with 14.1"/15.4" /17 " screens:

Please kindly mention which notebook LCD screens are your using truelife or matte ?

Are you satisfied or disatisfied with your existing notebook LCD screens ?If so,why ?

What is the difference between truelife, ultra sharp truelife, glossy, matte, anti glare, anti reflective screen ?Which is the best ?Is truelife same as glossy screen ?

Dell calls it TrueLife, Sony calls it Xbrite, Acer calls it CrystalBrite, HP and Compaq call it Brightview, etc. They’re all just their branded names for glossy displays.

Unfortunately, there are no non glossy LCD screens for 1440×900 or 1680×1050 resolution notebook LCD screens .

If there then please kindly mention here .

    Thanks

that article is crap. I have bought a glossy screen and is very satisfied with it. the reflection is there but it is not "unbearable". matt screens also suffer from reflection issues. the contrast ratio of these types of screens are really great and do offset all of its demerits. the colors on this screen look really vibrant and cool...........and well u can use it as a shaving mirror if u r running short of one :)

I agree. I have the glossy screen and the colours are so vibrant and realistic. Im very happy with it. Yes you do get some glare, but its not unbearable or it doesnt mean you have to concentrate 5 times as hard.

I tend to like the glossy screen much more. Unless you sit somewhere where sunlight is constantly at your back, it's not a big deal.

Of course if you absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt cannot stand moving your laptop when reflection hits - better get matte.

Glossy will give you a better quality picture. But, if that doesn't fall under your needs, then don't worry about it.

I agree whole heartedly! I've got an m1330 and love the TrueLife screen. When I look at a matte screen now, it always looks dull and washed out to me.

Yeah... The True-Life screens are the best...
Much richer colors, deeper black... I love it...

There is some refection... but that's only noticable when the screen is black...

When i saw the screen of my mothers new FZ i was like WTF, i feel like im gonna drown in the ocean background. Then i shifted a little in my seat and was like WTF, are those ppl behind that window of the house on the other side of the street having intercourse?
My point is, glossy looks preetty incredible, but even the slightest bit of sunlight renders it pretty much useless.

I don't think they make their laptops with matte screens anymore. I went with anti-glare, and That's an option that I KNOW can't go wrong.

Reasons: I love my current monitor (non glossy)
Fewer reports (if any) of graininess
You don't see the person sitting behind you when you're sitting in class..
and you can use your laptop in any given environment

As long as a window isn't behind you, you're pretty much ok. Also, after a few weeks, you stop noticing what little glare you might see in the beginning.

So you shift your position a little, or move the laptop a little, and no more reflection.
As opposed to matte, where the reflection would be diffused across the whole screen no matter which way you shifted, washing out the colors.

And as someone else pointed out, it can be even worse outside, where with glossy one small part of the screen is unviewable due to a reflection, while with matte you have a big whitish blob obscuring most of the screen.

But if you're going to be outdoors most of the time, maybe you'd want to look into getting a laptop with a transflective display, which makes use of the ambient light.

I've seen similar rants against matte screens. Whatever. It's personal preference.

Glossy offers a sharper image, richer colors, and better viewing angles. But it is reflective so you have to angle the screen away from the light. Matte screens have greatly reduced glare, but are worse in terms of the other things I just mentioned.

No all glossy screens are created equal!

The glossy screen on my A6Ja was quite irritating. It was impossible to use it outdoors for example.

So far, I'm finding the glossy screen on my M1530 to be much better (although I haven't tried it outdoors). I suspect the M1530 is better because it is a fair bit brighter.

The glossy screen on my 9300 is very annoying when in an office environment. I really wish Dell offered more matte screen options.

it also depends on the color of applications u use. if u just browse the web or do office stuff u will be working with a white screen. when screen is white the glare and reflection are pretty negligible on a glossy screen also. however if u use darker screen programs like doom3 or unreal tournament or stuff like that (in outdoors or near window). ur glossy screen may be bit troublesome. however if ur display briteness is high that may cure some of these effects

TBH, the single thing that holds me from buying the m1530 is the only option for glossy screen. Give us matte and I'll buy tomorrow! :)

Does any Dell Inspiron or XPS laptop have the option of "transflective display".

Please explain this term a little more.

    i personally prefer glossy screens
i somewhat enjoy the vibrant colours
but if i were to buy a laptop for work that id be taking around the world
    id definately go for matte
lesser maintainence and any enviornment workability
glossy screens are more of entertainment centred
and matte more toeards business users
    just my 2 cents
    cheers

i am in between the two choices. Since the vostro 1400 i bought had a cheap upgrade to truelife (like 18 in US$) i get it . Others models don't share the same price. For example in the inspiron 1420, the upgrade was more than 50 Us$ then i would have gone with matte

I used to say "hell no" to glossy screens until I got my Vostro 1400 with a glossy screen. The reason I got glossy instead of matte is because they only had the 1440x900 in glossy. Anyway, I just wanted to add my .02, that even though I was whole heartedly against glossy before, I have to admit that it doesn't take much time to get used to the reflections, they're pretty easy to ignore, unless of course there is a bright light directly behind your head. And the picture quality, more vibrant and better contrast, is definitely a plus.

In the end though, it is personal preference, but IMO, they aren't nearly as bad as I used to think they were, and in darker settings, I even prefer them over matte now.
