    Hello,
So I'm in Canada and I recently called the XPS M1530 customer service line to talk to them about a wobbly base for my notebook that I recently received.
They told me that they would dispatch a technician to my house within 1 business day so that they can replace the plastic bottom to see if that helps.
On the phone, the technician agent gave me a 9 digit number and a 9 digit dispatch number. Now that I think of it, I forgot to ask what I am suppose to do with these numbers. Do I need to call a certain phone number to schedule an appointment, and give them these numbers? I'm kind of lost about how this technician dispatch system works.
Also are there any risks associated to replacing the plastic bottom of my laptop? I hope he doesn't bang it up, since I paid 1800 for this baby.

It's a way of tracking items. I never found how you could track it online, basically if you are not worried, the tracking number means nothing to you. The number is for you to tell the operator if you call up dell to ask about your stuff so they know what you are talking about.

Keep the number. If you need to contact Dell for some reason, they can quickly access the information concerning your repair job.

    Hello,

My name is Mike, I’m a Technical Analyst at Dell corporate headquarters in Round Rock, TX. I’m part of an internet outreach team developed to interact with the online community regarding technical questions and issues that customers face with Dell products. I read your question and wanted to offer some clarification.

Pixelot has the right idea, the dispatch number, or DPS number, is a means for you confirm and track the specifics of a service call. For instance, if you were supposed to have a technician come out for a repair the next day and he didn’t call or show up, you call Dell, provide us with that number and we can see the details of the service including the service type and any parts ordered. You don’t have to call the service provider to schedule an appointment; we take care of that on our end. You can also acheive the same results by providing your service tag information, but this is just a faster way for us to access the specific service info. I hope this clears up your question.

    Thank you,

    Mike
