    Hey,

My name is Jamie. I spend most of my time discussing/moaning on the XPS M1330 forums threads. I have been trying to keep track of the Dell XPS M1330 order status' from the USA, Canada, UK and the rest of the world in order to try and gain a better handle on how things are playing out with deliveries. I even noticed one user try and keep a thread dedicated to this purpose but it soom became unmanageable.

I had an idea to knock together a few webpage driven my a SQL database and PHP to keep track of Dell orders. The system was designed with the XPS M1330 in mind but will work with any system (Inspiron, etc)

It is designed for us folks to be able to see the system configurations of others, when they ordered their system, when it is schedulled to be delivered, when it was actually delivered, and so on.

The idea behind this is to give some of us who still haven't recieved or Dell XPS system or similar to be able to better understand when we might have this priviledge!

To get involved please visit, register yourself to add your system:
    http://www.pinekone.org.uk/system

Here you will be able to add your system to the database and view others. If your component is not visable you can easily add another. There are a few dos and don'ts.
    - PLEASE DO NOT use the TradeMark symbol when adding components because it will not work properly!
    - PLEASE DO use the javascript pop-up calendar for picking dates. All dates are in USA format (MM/DD/YYYY).
    - PLEASE DO NOT abuse the system. You can add components freely. To keep things tidy please only add real components if they are not available already from the pull down menus.

Any comments or suggestions/upgrades just post here!

    Cheers,
    J

cheers guys - let me know if you have any suggestions on the primary columns I have chosen to display under the main "System Tracker" link. I've put colour and screen on 'cos i know they are parts that are holding things up but if anyone would like any others let me know!

Hey yes - there are two links on the left:
    "my systems"
    "system tracker"

System tracker will show you all the systems.

    Hope that helps!

Please be patient while the list grows. I only launched it 30mins ago!

Added mine! Good idea! I hope this catches on. Also knowing people's discounts and possibly how they got them through the "story" feature would be great.

I have recently added a "report" for screen colour.

On the left hand side of the site - if you click "Screen Colour Report" below "system tracker", you will find a report broken down into colour/color, which lists the Country, Order Date, EDD, PreProduction Date and Received Date of everyone else who has also ordered this colour.

    I found a small bug i can't resolve.

To successfully edit your own record, you need to be on the last page of the edit to make the changes (i.e. page 6). This means you cannot complete an edit on page 4, for example.

Just an update. I have added in the following reports:
    Report: Screen Colour Report
    Report: Processor Chip Report
    Report: Discount Report
    Report: System Type
    Report: Region Report

This allows you to get a report for the obvious selection which will hopefully aid you in your system tracking to find out what you want to know.

Any other ideas for any reports let me know!

Excellent work jtromans. It's perhaps a bit greedy, but it would be excellent if there was some prose analysis of the data (e.g. what components delay and where) - it's a bit tricky as it is!

EDD and ESD aren't the same thing - Estimated Delivery Date is when it should arrive on ya doorstep, Estimated Shipping Date is when it's expected to leave the factory so EDD would be later than that depending on the shipping method.

The US Order Status uses ESD and the European Order status uses EDD.

Tried to put in my details and it won't work - assume its the bug you were taking about. I'll try it again later ;)

I'll work on some written prose to analyse the data in a few days. Its a good idea it would be nice if i could work out some way to generate written prose.

You are quite right but because there is no direct comprison we're using them the same :)

It looks like a couple people who manually entered their dates didn't notice you were using the month/day/year formant, apparently this guy ordered his in february!

P.S. I'm pretty sure the T7300 is on delay, as it's the only difference between my system and an identical one ordered on the same date in the US, and theirs got shipped in 11 days.

If you can/want, you can add Spain as a region. Nobody from here has recived it, so we are on the same position as all European users.

You can add it yourself ;)

Anything that isn't listed, you need to add...he put this live with absolutely no values preinstalled...the only things listed are values other people have inputted...therefore, no one else from Spain has inputted their systems so you need to click the ADD button.

Great job on the System Tracker! I seem to be the first person to enter a 1520 Expresso Brown. I've seen posts where other Browns ordered after mine have shipped and am hearing that the WSXGA+ on mine may be the delay or possibly the T7300 process. Is there a way to see all 1520 WSXGA+ regardless of color or all T7300 processors along with date ordered and current status? Thanks! THIS IS PROGRESS! (watch out though --- Dell may not like you!)

Agreed...I'm really curious as to how much that affects pricing, because I got mine through EPP, with the 7% DellCare discount and no tax, and it's looking markedly higher than all the other 1420s...I wonder if no one else got a warranty...

I dont know if you saw my comment in another thread, but well done!

You should, if you have the time, enter the data from the 130+ systems listed in the first post of the "Who has waited the longest" thread.

Im receiving my laptop on Wednesday, and after that Im not going to be spending as much time maintaining that huge list.

It only includes orders from before July 15th, but if you havent added them, you should!

    Another suggestion...

How about a comparison feature that allows you to look at your system side by side with others? I really want to know why mine costs so much! lol...

    Again, good job sir...

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Although I would never ask for it, i noticed a "add to reputation" button ... ;)

mtylerjr: I dont have time to add all those people and update the site as well. The general idea is that people should add their own systems. Perhaps, if you would be so kind, you could advertise it on your thread to those people, or perhaps even in PM, so they (if they haven't already) can add their own systems to the tracker.

nubiennze: Comparing systems litterally side by side is a nice idea but not really practical. I will however try and think of something that I can work into the current layout and system that will highlight pricing more clearly. Perhaps a specialised report.

I would very much appreciate it if we could keep this thread active so it stays near the top of the forum for new users to find it and use it. Unless anyone knows how to request a sticky status for this therad?

Finally I have been working on a "bug tracker" system where users can add "issues" and a known solution (such as CPU whine) to a definitive list. However, I feel as though this should be moderated and maintained by one person. Is there anyone who is active on these types of threads (problem, issues, bugs) that is able to add to the "bug tracker" part of the website...?

Thanks again, any any suggestions are warmly recieved.

I was reading on the Dell2Dell blog that they're having a lot of problems with the paint on the Red and White M1330's... seems that they're not quite up to the standards the Dell requires, but I think they said the black is okay. That's why the white has been discontinued...

I added my computer too, even though I just ordered on the 9th... I'm hoping my delay won't be quite as severe as some experienced by users on this forum.
