Is it ok to disable this thing from coming on at start-up and having the icon appear in the taskbar? It is freaking annoying. Are there any problems that may arise?

I would say that you don't need that. It sounds like BigFix from Gateway, it "monitors" my computer to make sure that I don't "break" anything. I took it off as I know when I have messed something up and I highly doubt that BigFix is going to do anything for me. That's why I come here!!! NBR IS AWESOME, WE ARE TECH SUPPORT!!!!

Thanks Wingsbr, that's why I come here as well. Though the some of the things you guys and gals discuss is way over my head at the moment, but I am slowly gaining knowledge.

On my new Dell, the thing alerted me to an update of software I don't even have. And it neglected to alert me to a Dell patch that fixes a nasty memory leak in MediaDirect.

So I'd have to agree that the thing is pretty worthless -- it's batting .000 so far!

Besides, you can always punch in your service tag on Dell support's website and figure out what you need.
