Whenever my laptop is not plugged in to the charger the screen starts to flicker and then the screen will either go blank except a small strip at the top of the screen which is just a bunch of mixed colors. Here is a picture of that. http://www.flickr.com/photos/42400264@N06/4908891151/
Or it will get these 5 columns with horizontal lines through them. Here is a picture of that. 0511001526 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IF IT IS PLUGGED INTO AND EXTERNAL MONITOR. I have no clue what wrong and it does it when it's not plugged in and sometimes when its been plugged in and used for a long period of time. Does anyone have any clue as to what the problem is?

Call Dell Tech Support. That's not normal whatsoever. Something is up with either the graphics chip's ability to go to low power, the laptop's ability to supply proper power to it on battery, and/or the cooling system (whether fan or sensor). I'd suspect the cooler based on the fact it happens after it's been on for a long period of time, suggesting a thermal issue.
