Hi folks. I'm needing to get a new motherboard for my Dell Studio 1735.

I've seen a lot of 1737 mobo's for sale, and as far as I can tell the 1735 and 1737 boards are pretty much the same. But the 1737 had a different BIOS and could take higher speed CPU's.

    Is there any reason I couldn't put a 1737 mobo in a 1735 case?

I would like to upgrade the CPU and RAM, so the 1737 would give me more options.

Also, can anyone help with the exact part numbers?

The board I have isn't Dell branded, and has the part number 0NU324 which has the ATI HD 3650.

As far as I can find, the Dell branded 1737 part number is 0M826G which also has the ATI Radeon 3650 (the 0M824G has the integrated Intel graphics). But is there also an unbranded 1737 board? I can't seem to find part numbers easily.

1735/6/7 all use the same chassis. You should be able to use 1737 motherboard with little or no modification.

Assuming the 1737 board works, you can use any dual-core Socket P CPU (unsure if quads work) and at least 4GB of RAM.

What do you mean by "unbranded" boards?

My one doesn't have any manufacturer branded on it. I've seen ones with DELL printed on it, and the part number printed on back of the PCB( next to where the optical drive connects). Most of the images of the 1737 ones I've seen, are branded with DELL and have the motherboard P/N printed on the PCB as well as on the label under the memory. They have the M824/M826 P/N's.

I'm just assuming Dell must have outsourced the manufacture of some of the boards at some point to a 3rd party. I just wondered if there was also 1737 ones that weren't branded, and had different P/N's that I could look for.

Although TBH, I've not actually came across any others that I didn't recognise.

Honestly, there's no practical difference between the "same" board with different part numbers. Just don't worry about the muddle of part numbers and just look for your board by description.
