I ordered a laptop from Dell this past Friday and saturday i was looking over the email they sent me and became concerned when i saw the color description they used.
I chatted with a dep rep immediately and she confirmed my color to be Graphite Grey with Black Trim yet i've located this color item online to be reported in the description correctly and using two different item numbers.
Here is what they sent me:
Item Number Item Description
224-1667 1 Studio 1737, Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, 2.2GHz, 1066Mhz
313-6986 1 Black IMR with Black Trim
311-8623 1 3GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm
Here is what i've found online :
Item Number Item Description
223-7821 1 Intel® Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
320-6464 1 Graphite Grey with Black Trim
311-8612 1 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2
Item Number Item Description
313-6284 1 Graphite Grey with Black Trim
Can anyone confirm my item # 313-6986 with the description of "Black IMR with Black Trim " to be Graphite Grey with Black Trim.
Thanks

I had the same exact issue. I received my Studio 1737 for Christmas, even though it got delayed and showed up on the 31st, and it said the same thing. I asked for Graphite Grey, and my mom said that she thought that she had selected that option, even though the description said black. I really did not want a standard black laptop and I believe that it costs more to get the design. Either way, I just pulled up my order (I guess Dell keeps them online for quite a while) and it says this:
Though it says that, I'm typing this on the laptop and it's Graphite with the black trim. The only thing that is different is that the Graphite doesn't have the pattern on the inside on the palm rest, while the other colors seem to. This is strange to me, but certainly nothing to return the system over. -
Thanks glad to know that, i posted this same question on Dell's Forums and still no reply. I read that the palm rest is supposed to have grafite grey on it too. I've seen a picture of it on a laptop. I deleted the link so i can't show you that it had color on the one i saw online.
Found it
The link above is from a review on this system
To quote from the review :
" Another nice touch is the use of an imprinted design on the palmrest area (also on the display lid if you select the high gloss graphite grey color options). "
Another Image that's in the review -
Yeah, I've seen it on the display models and they all had solid color lids. I'm not really sure why the pattern isn't on the inside, but I'll live . Those scrollbars also aren't on the touchpad. I do know that for early reviews, companies will send out preproduction models that are somewhat different from the final product. Either way, it's a little strange. Maybe I got the wrong part...lol.

You guys are really missing out with no "dried milk stains" on the right wrist rest!
I like the topographical design on the lid of the Graphite Gray models. But carrying it over to the inside was NOT a brilliant idea! My Midnight Blue Studio 15 just has five or six various squiggly lines on the right half of the wrist rest and keyboard trim.....but they look strangely out of place since they aren't continuing the design from the lid. They should have only included the design on the inside of Graphite Gray units.....of not at all! -
Lol! That's exactly what my friend thought; He asked my if I had spilt milk over my laptop!
To think that you need an extra £30 for that privelege!
