I purchased a Studio 1747 from Dell online. On the left side, I have a tv tuner port. I have tried hooking up an antenna but Windows Media Center does not detect a tv tuner on this laptop. Is there something I'm doing wrong? or did dell not install the tuner? or is it a dummy port? Any help on this would be appreciated!

If you go into device manager does the tuner show up, even as unknown device? if it says unknown device, then it's a driver issue, you may have to install the driver from dell drivers disk, or download from dell website. If nothing at all shows in device manager, then either dell didn't install a tuner at the factory, or it's a factory defect (sometimes happens)...

Well it is not in the devices list, however it is in my service's tag Dell driver list. And also there is a dvbt input pin on the left side of a laptop. driver instalation failed with no error.
The same thing happens with gsm module under the battery, It has click in mechanism for SIM card, but when I insert sim card nothing happens, broadband manager disays error saying something about device can not be found.
Ps I do not have any unknown device in device manager -
sounds like it's looking more like defective part, that's why it's not in device manager, and why you're getting the driver installation failure message...

I have the same laptop, I also have the antennae plug. if you open the back panel of the laptop, you will notice an empty slot written (Tv card), that means the tv card isnt installed on your laptop. that means you do not have a tv tuner card...
