    Im after a remote control for my studio 17, but im not sure where i should look! Iv tried searching for similar threads but didn't come across many so decided to ask here.

    Iv found this one on ebay, but it doesn't recharge from the slot. Are there any versions which do? if not how long does the battery last? and finally, will that remote be suitable for my 1737 (i know it says it is but id rather be safe than sorry!).

    Did you get your laptop direct from dell? Mine is a refurb model i got from MCS technology ltd. http://www.mcscom.co.uk/section.php?xSec=74

    Do you think the same tactic would work for me? If not, do you know where i could buy it? I couldn't find it on their website.

    that'd be perfect for me but he doesn't ship to the UK, which is a real shame. If anyone knows of any UK/EU suppliers id be hugely grateful!

    Do you want one of the grey ones, or one of the new black ones with the green media centre button?

    Here are three ebay links in the uk, they are grey ones though, but they seem pretty good prices.

    They don't all say they are for studio 17, but i'm sure they will work.

    The Studio 17 has a 54mm ExpressCard slot and a frontal infrared sensor, so the remote will work.

    Thank you for confirming Mastershroom, and many thanks for the links kendoisonfire!

    Ideally i would much prefer the black one, just because it looks so much tider! I dont spose you came across many in your searches did you kendo? When i tried ebaying it not much came up.

    edit:
    I managed to track some down myself on ebay, they guy has several of them still up so if any other Europeans so might be of use to someone;

    Iv received the remote how i cant get it to work, afaik i thought it would work straight out of the box but i havnt been so lucky.

    Im running windows 7 so i don't think iv got all the drivers installed so i was just wondering if it could be down to this. Does anyone know what driver pack the IR drivers would be in?

    thanks :)

    (review will come once iv got it working!)

    Here's the IR port driver for the 1737, for Vista 32-bit.

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=271594

    If you have the 64-bit version of Windows 7, you'll have to use the 64-bit Vista driver, which is also available on the Dell support page.

    Thats got it working! thanks a lot mate! :)

    as for the remote;

    It looks very tidy, much nicer in black then in grey. AFAIK it works without any problems, i dont have Dell dock etc installed so couldn't work them but Media Centre, volume pause etc all work fine!

    My only complaint with it is the buttons are quite stiff so you do need to use a bit of force to put them, i would have much preferred a softer touch button. For £10 its good value for money, especially if you like to use your laptop to watch films etc before bed. Flicking through Media Centre is a breeze and it slots very comfortably into the laptop when not in use!

    If anyone has any questions ill do my best to answer them! :)

    Out of curiosity, is there anyway to change what some of the buttons do? For example, the dell dock button isn't in use, but id like to make them maximise/minimise the screen (to check on stuff in the background). Id also like the Media Centre button to launch Windows media player instead, then use the arrow keys to flick through music/videos etc.
