Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and am having some issues with my laptop. I am by no means a computer guru so bear with me....
I purchased a new Dell Studio 1737 running Windows Vista Home SP1. I personally never liked vista and was forced to order my machine with the OS because Dell never offered XP. Anyway, I recently purchased and installed XP Home SP3 on the machine myself and removed the old vista. I was able to reinstall practically all of the drivers and the machine runs a hell of alot better with XP than with Vista. My problem is with the DVD/Blue Ray. The laptop originally came with Dell MediaDirect Version 4.0.4707. I reinstalled the software using the dell recovery CD, but I'm having issues trying to play dvd's properly.
#1. The Dell Media Direct application doesn't launch automatically when the dvd/BR disc is inserted. I checked the settings in the drive E: through windows explorer and the auto play is set to Media Direct for DVD's yet it still doesn't auto matically start.
#2. After manually starting the Media Direct software, I insert the movie and the Blue Ray disc starts up and goes to it's main menu like a normal BR disk would. When I'm at the menu, I can't use my mouse to click on the play button or any other settings. If I use the laptops arrow keys, I can toggle from play->settings->chapter->etc....and use the enter key to execute my choice. Once the movie is actually playing, I can then use my mouse to point and click the various control buttons on top of the window including the play, stop, settings, FF, REW, etc....... It's annoying to not be able to point and click for everything.....
I have removed and re-installed the software and it just does the same thing.
So basically it plays the movies, just not the way it should. Any suggestions????????????????
Thanks,
tony

My advice? Honestly, don't use Dell MediaDirect.
Sorry if I sound like I'm trolling, but it's just not a good program. If you had kept Vista, you could have used the Windows Media Center, which is a million times better. I recommend you just install Vista on a tiny separate partition of your hard drive and use the Media Center for movies.
