Hey guys i had this common problem with my Studio 1737 but after a lot of research i have found a solution.
First here is my machine spec
Intel graphics,Intel T9600 2.80 Ghz CPU, 4gig PC2-6400 ram, OCZ agility 120gb SSD with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Seagate 7200 rpm 500gb Hdd for storage

Right so here is how i got my fingerprint reader to work first i deleted all the drivers which i got from the dell site and also deleted the digital persona software, i tried about 5 different drivers off the dell site and NONE worked Very annoyed kept getting the errors device wont start or no reader present .
So first i found this Driver
AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver (64-bit) - HP Business Support Center

its a HP driver but works perfectly, then i downloaded the Digital Persona software version 4.01 from here

Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader Software - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Also from HP again but as i write this my finger print device is working 100%

I hope this helps best of luck :) :) :)
