Dell Studio 1737 ACPI/Embedded Controller errors: cause for delays?

This past weekend, I upgraded a client's PC from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium. (and by upgrade, I mean wiped it all out and reinstalled with Dell's 7HP64 disc)


I also took the time to update their BIOS, and do some other simple upkeep things, but have noticed that the PC will occasionally seem to hang for a few seconds before doing something, be it bringing up the start menu, their Live Mail, etc.

I went into Event Viewer to see if there was anything being mentioned for hard drive issues or anything that could shed some light on why I'd get these intermittent delays, and noticed hundreds of ACPI errors, talking about the Embedded Controller. It seems to be a somewhat common issue, but I've yet to see anything resembling a fix for it.

"The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly."

Right now, I'm blaming these delays on this issue, as the RAM and HDD checked out fine, and I've done nothing special to this Windows installation that I haven't done to the dozens of other systems I've installed 7 on. Does anyone have any insight as to when this EC error may be fixed, or a workaround for it? Also, if anyone has any ideas on the momentary freezes, I'm happy to hear them.

 

Could you solve this problem ? I'm having the exact issue on the exact same 1737 dell studio, after doing a clean install of Win 7. Vista didn't complain about this issue, and was not so slow.
