I always thought the Dell 1737 had a LED backlit screen? Looking at the website it has no mention of it though, yet im sure iv seen people talking about it in the past?
Id ask the Dell support monkeys, but they are utterly useless at anything but breathing & thanking you.
thanks

I checked it. Apparently this option is only available for the studio 15. Try to contact them by phone.
-
On the US site I can configure the Studio with A 17" RGB-LED WUXGA.
On the lower end Studio 17s you can get a LED WXGA+ screen. -
I think LED has not arrived in the uk yet, for the 17" studio.

Called them up and after him telling me the entire url bar, i found that the WLED option is available on the config 1 (ie the lowest spec/cheapest) studio 17, but on the medium speced studio 17 it isnt an option.
I find this really really weird, why they allow you to have it on the cheapest laptop, but not on the higher spec ones! -
Hi All,
I ordered a Studio 17 a few weeks ago (the highest spec) with a WLED screen so I can confirm that the option WAS available, but it isn't now. Should I be concerned? How can I check that I've actually got the LED screen as, tbh, it doesn't seem any different. The screen doesn't seem to produce as much (if any) heat, although now it seems warm towards the bottom, but that could be the laptop making it warm.
Regards,
Scott -
This isn't the most reliable method, but check how many different levels of brightness your have (Press Fn and the Up arrow key). Usually the CCFL screens will have 7 levels of brightness and the LED ones will have 15.

At least you can change the brightness in your BIOS, I don't have that option on the 1537. -
Interesting. My 1535 has it under the "Display" category, with two options: Brightness, and Brightness (AC), each with 16 levels.

Off topic, but welcome back John! It's been a few days.
That reminds me of my friend's Inspiron 1420...for whatever reason, when on battery power, his Fn+up or down brightness setting was independent of his BIOS brightness. Like, on battery, his maximum brightness with Fn+Up was noticeably less than the lowest Fn+Down brightness on battery power.
I booted his laptop into BIOS, and the battery power brightness setting was still set to the lowest level. I nudged that to the highest and saved it, and it's been normal ever since. -
In that case I guess the BIOS is actually needed to save the brightness settings. I've never owned a laptop without the BIOS brightness so I guess my theories are flawed. -
But that's the weird part...I have the BIOS brightness options, but they automatically correspond to the brightness I set in Windows with Fn+Up or Down.
Dell Studio 1737 - no LED screen?
