I just sent back my Studio 17... I bought the unit fully loaded with blueray, etc. I had hopes of using it to watch movies but the speakers are absolute junk. I have better sound out of my cell phone. VERY poor design... I am thinking about doing a HP HDX18t it comes with altec lansings and a built in subwoofer.

Sorry, this happened to you! :(

Well, at least now you are going to get a refund, and look at lappy's that might work for you. Sounds like the HP might be something you might like.

You should check out the HP section of the forum, for some info or reviews about the HP! ;)

In the future, it is advisable to check NBR's reviews on the laptop you buy, as I believe the inferiority of the speakers used in the Studio line-up were mentioned; and I do agree, they are terrible, terrible speakers.

They arent very good speakers, no. But, I cant imagine why you would want to watch a film on any laptop speakers, even the likes of the HDX range arent amazing and are outdone by any half decent stereo speakers.

Davi, the HP speakers are said to be significantly nicer than other rigs, but I agree with Bog, take a look at other reviews and ask questions if an area (sound) is not covered. A pair of Logitech NB speakers may be nice for your home setup, but I would feel impractical for travel. Good luck!

Errm...Lot's of people do. If you want to have good listening quality when playing music and such. You want a lappy that will provide for this when listening to the speakers, and/or listening with headphones.

Speakers are just one part of a laptop, as is much more.

And, he stated he will be doing research on his next lappy choice!

Laptop speakers are important. I have an old Inspiron 9300, Oh man are the speakers SWEET. Studio 17 speakers are JUNK, you can't even play a sample of music because they don't go loud enough.
I have Studio 17 and love the keyboard and some other features, but I would have chosen something different at least with BETTER Quality Sound..................... Im disappointed in Studio 17 speakers....................Junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I do...
One of the reasons I purchased the laptop in queston was that I could use it as a standalone video player. My previous laptops (Toshiba P35) could do this very well but unfortunately it passed away. I bought the Dell because it is touted at having "High Definition Audio 2.0". Well it turns out that the High Def Audio was only available if you connected it to something else.

Although my previous computer, HP Pavilion had amazing built speakers, I still hooked it up to speakers or used in-ear plugs when I was on the go. The speaker on my Dell do suffice for some moderate music playback though I wouldn't return because Beethoven symphony doesn't sound perfect on it.
