I just had my motherboard replaced due to the HDMi port failing.
Now that the motherboard has been replaced & HDMI port is working again I am getting no sound from the JBL speakers, only the sub.
From the sound of it _all_ the sound is being broadcast through the sub, which causes no end of rattles on average music on only 2/3 volume, but it also sounds like it is under water.
Has anyone ever had this before? I'm struggling for ideas on the cause a d can't open it up to check due to the warranty, with a holiday next week I was hoping to have the laptop to hand for films & music!
cheers guys

Hi Andehh,
My name is Deepa and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. First of all, I would like you to check if there is sound coming out of the earphones/headphones. This will help you to identify the root cause whether it is a motherboard or the speakers. In case if you are getting sound out of the earphones, it's an issue with the speakers and if no sound out of the earphones, I would suggest you following steps:-
1)Update the bios of the system
You can follow these steps:-
>Go to Welcome to Dell Technical Support > click on home users > go to drivers and downloads > enter the service tag(7 digit alphanumeric code at the bottom panel of your laptop) of your system > select the operating system from the dropdown menu > click on bios > download and run the latest bios as per the date written over there.
2)Update the audio drivers and these are the steps:-
>Go to Welcome to Dell Technical Support > follow the above steps to come to the main drivers page and then update the latest audio drivers
3)Restart the system
Hope these steps would help you to resolve the issue and for further assistance please do reply
Thanks and Regards

Hi there,
Thank you for your reply, brilliant idea from Dell having a communities team!
The earphone work fine, so does that mean the speakers are at fault?
cheers -
Hi Andehh,
As you said that the earphone works fine, this is a positive indication that the motherboard is functioning properly. Now the issue could be with the speakers or with the ports where you are connecting the speakers. To isolate the issue, I would like to suggest you to run a diagnostics on your system after removing the earphones. Following are the steps how to run the diagnostics:-
>Turn on the system and immediately keep tapping F12 key for atleast 4 to 5 times
>You will get boot menu options
>Select diagnostics and hit enter
> Keep a check if you are getting any error codes or beeping noise
You can perform one more step that is BIOS update of your system and I have already mentioned the steps how to do that in my first reply.
Please check the speaker cables if they are properly connected or not.
Please reply for further help.
Thanks and Regards
