Looks like the new studio 15z with discrete graphics is here! It's price at $1049 and isn't a blue label model. This laptop may just be my next!

    here's the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Studio+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174;+Core%26%23153;+i5+Processor+-+Cappuccino/9718931.p?id=1218158732672&skuId=9718931

according to specs, it's a 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 4570. not a bad laptop for the price. unless Dell refreshes the Studio 14z with a Core i5 CPU, this may be the laptop i get.

now i just wish it had a resolution of at least 1600 x 900 instead of the 1366 x 768.

the specs also list a 9-cell battery. does anyone know if it's flush with laptop or sticks out?

I'm hoping this has decent battery life of maybe 5 hours.

No, they need to put in 5570, then we'd be set :). Plus the higher res.

The 9-cell battery sticks out on the bottom, so the laptop is angled.

I can't be sure about this model with the discrete gpu, but I have the 1569 and the battery is flush, so nothing sticking out.

i'd assume the battery would be the same, but i can't find any detailed specs on Best Buy's site.

can your check your battery if it's a 9 cell?

What type of Gaming do you all expect this machine to handle??? It won't play Resident Evil 5 or Crysis. It may barely play WOW on Med settings and maybe just maybe MW2 on Med settings

I'm pretty certain most people who purchase this system will be buying for very little gaming use. But even if they do, the screen resolution is 1366x768 so games like WoW will run fine with medium settings. I run WoW on my system below, on lower settings at native resolution and it's fine.

I'm getting a good 5.5 hours doing just web/office work, which is what I got the 1569 for. I imagine the 15z with the 4570 might get a little less in terms of battery life, but it shouldn't suffer too badly for it.

Well, the idea is that say 5570 would be more power efficient and faster, allowing for both better gaming and better power. Now, if Dell actually bothered and put switchable graphics in, that would have been even better.
