Hi,
I bought a Dell Studio 1558 a few Years ago and can't seem to find any information about GPU Passthough.
My Specs:
OS: GNU/Linux
CPU: Intel i7 Q720
Intel® Core⢠i7-720QM Processor (6M Cache, 1.60 GHz)
VT-x YES
VT-d YES
Graphics Card: Ati Mobility Radeon 5470
BIOS: Phoenix BIOS A12, "Virtualization: Enabled"
According to my Specs it should be possible.
I have tried PCI Passthrough of my GPU with XEN and QEMU/KVM.
I have also tried XEN's "GPU Passthru" which also didn't work.
Now, I have found a "Dell Studio 1558 BIOS MOD" which unlocks hidden features in the BIOS.
I have also found this (unlocked BIOS for 1557), but it makes me wonder.
Could it possibly be, that VT-d is by default disabled and the "Virtualization" in my BIOS only applies for VT-x? that would explain why GPU Passthrough fails.
I am planning to flash my BIOS in the future with the 1558 Mod A12:

However, I will have to take many safety precautions before I will flash my BIOS with the Mod as I want to be able to recover after a failure.
As usual, contacting Dell via. E-Mail seems to be more difficult than I thought.
The Dell.at doesn't seem to have an E-Mail contact, so I will probably have to contact Dell.co.uk
I appreciate any information on this Topic
Thank you in advance.

Ah damn:

1558 and 1557 BIOS should be similar, so I guess VT-d is also disabled in the 1558 BIOS by default.
That pretty much Answers my Question...
There is basically no "easy" way around this issue and I must flash my BIOS.
