    So...

    • The 1558 runs on average 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the 1557 (although the 1557's power brick needs a fan of it's own).
    • The 1558 with i5 520M is on a par with the the i7 720QM-equipped 1557 for non-quad optimised tasks.
    • Somewhat surprisingly, not a huge difference in battery life under a variety of circumstances.

Current difference in price on the Dell UK website between the 1557 & 1558 for identical spec base-level machines (notwithstanding the different CPU of course) is about £50 more for the 1557 (around 7% more).

Considering the pricing and the drubbing the 1557 has been getting around here, I was expecting more from the 1558 to be honest.

I wouldn`t buy it, even if they paid me... i`m done with Dell... 6 months, 2 laptops, about 10.000 problems. So.... watch out, they are using the same cooling sistem for the core 2 duos than for the i7 that i`ve got (by FAR NOT ENOUGH FOR A QUAD CORE), and will be the same for de i5....
it`s a damn HOT laptop.... maybe designed for gourmets, you can read the recipes, and cook them all over your keyboard!
