    Hi Guys,

It's frustrating that still i didn't receive my Laptop which had been placed for order at 18th of Feb. the estimated date was 5th of March but today they changed it to 15th. i m sooo upset caus i placed the order at 18th thinking that i'll b having the system by 25th of Feb (previous 2 order i received within 6business days). the stupid sales man said me this as well. but ever since i placed the order i can see "Work in progress" status on the carrier website link. the order has not yet been shipped nor any tracking number given. the customer service said there is a scarcity of some parts of the machine. i also checked uk dell website. there is no more Studio1557 with i7 processor. i don't know what to do. i feel so angry with them that i might cancel the order but i need a system. is there any other laptop with i7 processor and 1gb graphics card? guys share with me with some advice. F..u..k..ng DELL....though i m a fan of them but i m pissed off.

I ordered mine on 17th Feb with the i7.

Delivery was due 5th of March and the order remained in work in progress. Today it changed to delivery date of 30th March and now the idiots have changed the status to cancelled. Like !

So, right now, I have no idea what the heck they're playing at.

Just tried to call Dell. There computer systems are down. Ack!

I've just checked my credit card and no payment has been taken out by Dell. I am wondering if there has been a payment issue? Dells website however indicates that if the order changes to work in progress, payment has been authorised. So, I'm wondering if that's the issue?

Ack. Excuse me while I go and vent.

I ordered mine on 23th Feb still on "work in progress" with estimated delivery time 9th March. If they change anything I'm gonna call them and cancel the order or ask for same bonus/discount.

Right, I managed to find out what happened with mine. Apparently there is a conflict between the 5470 graphics card and the wireless N card I chose. Dell made no attempt to communicate this to me and cancelled my entire order. They had over 2 weeks to tell me!

I managed to get through to the right person after pretending I wanted to place a new order. Their IVR service sucks.

It also transpires that the 1557 is now end of line so I cannot simply revert to a different wireless card.

The chap offered me the same spec (with different wireless card) on the 1558 for the same price (saving around £132). No idea what the difference between a 1557 and 1558 is (anyone know?). He also mentioned that I would get it a lot sooner too. However, I can't track my order as I have a booking reference number rather than an order number. I still don't know if the order has been confirmed as it needs an override by the finance team.

If you've ordered a 1557 and your order is still work in progress, you may want to take the initiative and find out what is going on. Dell certainly won't tell you!

    Doesn't exactly instil much confidence.

Which wireless card have you chose, mine is Intel 5300. They dont do 1557 any more. You can buy 1558 with the same spec but without wireless N 3x3 card.

Guys..I m sorry that i missed lots of ur opinions and advices...even though i openned the thread.
anyway to zedpos--------------same thing happened to me..today when i was checking my order status i was shocked to see that my order has been cancelled. then i called to them and finally got a lady to talk. she said me, there was some configuration problem with the machine..that's why the order has been automatically cancelled. she tarnsfered me to the sells department who would clarify me more. meanwhile i sent a mail to that supervisor of the sales team (he is a nice chap) who made that stupid sales man to contac with me for the order. and thats the guy who i placed the order with at 18th of Feb. however...the sales lady i spoke with seemd really my dear type of person. she explained me that there was a conflict with the Graphics Card and then she put me on hold to see what best she could do for me.. and finally she she rebooked the order with new order number and customer number. oh yea, she took my card details again and said me once evrything is done she will call me and even she gave me her direct contact number with the exe no. once she hanged up...that idiot sales man called me and was mumbling. he tried to explain me that due to graphics card compatibility issue(according to him Studio1557 is not compatible with ATI 5470 1GB) the order has been canncelled, so if i want the order to rebook he has to change Studio1557 to Studio1558. but in that case i would loose my dell Coupon code and all the other promotions i had b4. but fortunately i got that lady from finance department b4 who i sorted everything out earlier. anyway, finally everything has been sorted out. i got new order number and i could even check the link where it shows the estimated delivery date is 31st of March. i m sooo happy!!!. as the system i specified was really bargain.

    I m also thinking what's the difference between Studio1557 and Studio1558.

to Jako .... definitely u r not right mate. my new order is Studio1558 with i7 processor

So what i have got is
    Studio1558 with i7, 500gb hdd 7.2k, 4gb ram, 1gb ati 5470, European Intel Wireless LAN 6300 3X3 (802.11 a/b/g/n), bluetooth, backlit keyboard...9-cell battery..Midnight Blue color(that time it was promotion as free) just for £782.66

NB: while i was checking the config now, surprisingly seen that zedpos was right what he had been told about the wireless card conflict. my prebious wireless card was Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11a/g/n). i didn't realise that it has been changed to get the order rebooked.
and definitely thats why Studio1557 is being called to Studio1558.
guys.... whats ur specific and how much u meant to pay fpr that???

Jako, I went with the 5300 wireless card. I'm surprised that the order was allowed to be placed if there was a compatibility issue. I did click Yes to DELL can contact me too!

    Oh well.

The replacement card on my new order is European Intel Wireless LAN 6200 2x2 (802.11a/b/g/n) Card. No idea what the difference is, I just wanted some future proofing.

My order has now been confirmed although delivery is at the end of the month.

nealloy, I also used a voucher but made no mention of it. I'm not sure whether the chap noticed but all he said is that their prices and offers fluctuate often. My order is similar spec to yours but came to £925 but included 3 years warranty (I don't trust Dell - lol) and the HD screen.

Keep me posted with how your order progresses.

So yes, what is the difference between 1557 and 1558?

According to the manual the only difference is in the Intel chipset, 1557 has PM55 (older but performance chipset) and 1558 has HM55 which is newer but mainstream chipset. The HM55 looks better because it has ability to switch the graphic cards, but it is useless with Core i7 as it has no graphic chip integrated in the cpu. The idea is to use two graphic cards, the cpu integrated on battery to save the power and the ATI on mains for better performance, but it only works with Core i5 not i7. Looks like Dell is just making the job easier for themselves and do only one mainborad for all studios.

Same here, I have just found today that my studio 1557 has been cancelled! Thy guy from Dell said it was dut to a technical issue. Now according to him a will get a studio 1558 with a better mother board. But check this out! the original order had a HDD of 500 Gb 7200 R.P.M and now they say that that HDD is not available for the 1558 and they want to give me a 500 Gb 5400rpm HDD!!! sucks!! Im expecting a call from one of the supervisor as Im not happy at all with the new HDD. So make sure guys that you are not getting a 5400 rpm instead of a 7200 rpm!

For the wireless they are giving me a Dell Wireless 1520 (802.11n) Half Mini Card wich im not sure if its better than the Intel WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/g/n) Half Mini Card I ordered at the beguining. What do you think?

Only Intel 5300 and 6300 are 3x3, they use three aerials for better connection and speed, Intel 6200 and Dell 1520 use 2x2, two aerial system which is worst and cheaper option.

I think Intel card in newer than Dell's, but there is no much difference on performance. If you planning to switch the card in the future for 6300 or WiMax card, Intel will be easier to sell on eBay. You should ask them for some discount because of hdd and wireless card is lower spec, something like £40-50.

    The replacement order has:

Wireless : European Intel Wireless LAN 6200 2x2 (802.11a/b/g/n) Card.

In light of what Jako said, I've queried whether the 6300 is more appropriate as I opted to pay extra for the 1530 on my original order. Fortunately, I have the email address of the guy who sorted my order out.

You should get Intel 6300 or 5300. It’s funny for me to write this knowing that in two or three days I will have to do the same with my order, but because of you I will have some experience.

Just because it's not listed may not necessarily mean its not available!

I queried the lack of any blu-ray drives on any of their offerings. The nice bloke on the phone advised me that I could have one for the princely sum of £140. I declined his generous offer! To be fair, he did query whether I would be hooking the laptop upto an LCD/Plasma as that's the only real time I'd gain any real benefit.

Today my order has been cancelled and ten minutes later I received email from dell with my new order. It is 1558 with identical spec and the order itself is identical. The only difference is the wireless card, old system had Intel 5300 and the new system has Intel 6300. I’m very pleased that I did not need to talk and argue with anyone from dell but also very disappointed as expected delivery date is 6/4/2010, yes one month!

Well I spoke to the chap regarding my wireless card and he has said that the 6200 is superior to the 1530.

He dropped an email to their team to speed up delivery and will contact me when he has further news. Delivery date is still end of month.

Jako, good news on your 1558.

    6300 3X3 (802.11 a/b/g/n) is better than 5300 and 6200, isn't it?

    Hi all

I have joined up to let you know i have had the same issue and im also in the U.K

They cancelled my order without telling me. I ordered on the 25th of feb.
I phoned and had to haggle aggresively for a spec that was similar to my original order and they would only offer me an i5 540m and 6200 card.

The guy said there were some issues with the i7 and the config so wouldnt let me order the cpu again for the new config.

I was most annoyed and to make matters worse i had to shell out another £30 for what was a lesser spec. He originally wanted another £240!!!!!

Totally p'sd with dell and now waiting on a laptop with a lesser spec and as i do quite an bit of video encoding im not that excited as i needed a 4 core.

    Hope you all get sorted.
    Tony

What is the model number they gave u with i5 processor? is it Studio1558? we all have been offered i7 (original order was also with i7 processor with Studio1557) with Studio1558 and my wireless card is even upgraded to 6300. i m still worried if order get cancelled again as some1 says that Studio1558 supports only i5 processor. but yesterday i spoke with the sales woman and she confirmed me not to worry for anything. the order is absolutely fine, in fact she is the one who did change the wirelless card to get the order rebooked. she also said me Dell is about to launch Studio1558 with i7 processor. i don't know whom to believe. i m in dilemma.

According to the manual, 1557 was i7 only and ati hd4570. There is no option for 1557 with ati hd5470 and that was the main problem with orders. By mistake they sold system that never existed. Only 1558 has a choice of graphic cards (hd4570, hd5470) and three types of cpu, i3, i5, i7.

    Hiya

The laptop is the 1558 and not my original 1557, i was told i had to have the 6200 as the 5300 was causing problems and the same for the i7 to i5 CPU.
The guy was sure on this and would not back down.
The card included in the new order was the 5470 1 gb.

I think you need to go back and fight them and specify that other individuals have had their spec replicated like for like plus wireless card change.

They are taking you for a ride and you need to speak to a supervisor. There is no way you should accept an i5.

I have enabled email but I don't seem to have a pm option. Would like the i7 but not sure if I should just cancel the order rather than wait all over again.
Dell have managed to do my head in and possibly loose a customer .

    Right, I'm confusing myself!

I also paid extra for a 5300 (think an extra £35) but now have the 6200 as a replacement.

maxoutput, can't email you either as there is no address listed!

Right, I've dropped an email to the dell bloke for a 6300 instead of a 6200. See what happens!

my system has cost me £1100, (had a £645 off voucher).
If iI was you I would try to deal with them by phone rather than by email, is quicker and they cannot ignore you. Just tell them that you paid for a 5300 because you need a 3x3 receptor instead of 2x2. so an intel 6200 isn' enough. in the end you are the one paying not them

Zedpos, there is no 1530 card, originally I had 5300 but on my new order I have 6300. I think that's the way it should be done.
After reading all you problems I just realise how lucky I am because they just did it themselves and I couldn't do it better myself.

My new order looks like this, all changes are in red.
