So I just got an M17x R2 so i wanted to swap the processors out

    My dell had a i7 920XM and the Alienware had a I7 m620

So i figured I7 and I7 should be an easy swap, The alienware works fine, but my dell on the other hand not so good, It turns on, but no bios beep, even when i take the ram out, and no video no matter what i do...

Did i put the Processor in wrong or what could be the issue, i dont want to have to take it back apart again tonight, So could someone help with a diagnostic, do you know if this processor is supported?

    Thanks in advance guys.

Are you sure the i7 620M still works? If you swap the CPUs back do they both work? The 1557 should support the dual core Arrandale i7's no problem.

Positive, I'm thinking maybe I could have locked it after putting the hsf back on, instead of before hand, but yes i swapped them back and the i7 920xm works in the studio and the i7 620 works in the alienware, but with that 620 its really a damper on my gaming, i was able to run mass effect 3 at a solid 80fps with the 920, but now im getting around 30 :( its a cpu intensive game. So i will try swapping them back once i get my alienware back from dell(they are going to replace the motherboard on it(out of waranty), since the stupid resource dvd bricked my lights)

Yeah its no good, that doesn't work, im guessing its a bios issue, otherwise my M17x R2 would have the i7 920xm in it. :( how sad, if someone wanted to mod a bios to work with the i7 620m i wouldnt be opposed to it

My R2 came with a 920XM from the factory. Besides a different heatsink for the Extreme edition CPU's, it SHOULD work. Are you on the latest BIOS? A10 is the "newest" one.
