Indeed, I can attest to that since I lagged on WC3 with a desktop 9600GT and I'm positive it's my CPU which caused it(had a single core AMD 3700+ back in the day).
That being said, the HD4570 should do fine for most RTS games if you back it up with a good CPU.

Thanks for the replies. I'll still have to decide whether to get this lappie or not. It really looks gorgeous. I'm a bit worried about the weight and size, since I might be using it for college. But thanks again!
-
If you have a good cushioned backpack, then the size and weight won't be too bad. My 1535 weighs over 6 pounds with the 9-cell battery, plus the Bluetooth mouse and USB numeric keypad I lug around, not to mention three or four textbooks depending on what class I go to.
If you have a backpack with good weight distribution, it's not a burden at all. -
Where's a well-written review of the 1555 on this site?
It's the same old non-USA reviews on YouTube, NO new ones!!! -

does the midnight blue (along with the other colored versions) have a matte finish on the lid, or is it all glossy?
-
Anyway, I paid around $750 for mine, although it was not the same back then. When I bought it, it had the T5750 2.0GHz/667MHz FSB processor, 3GB of RAM, no backlit keyboard, and 32-bit Vista. The T9500 I bought to install myself cost me $250, the 4GB RAM kit was about $40, and the backlit keyboard was $50. So, the final product you see in my signature is after about $350 of upgrades, so the final amount of money spent on this thing since day 1 comes to around $1,100. -
lol Thanks.
What kind of coupons can you predict for the 1555 after May 1? (When the older coupons expire). -

I'm thinking of getting this laptop shortly after it comes out in the UK. Does anyone who owns this laptop (be it the new model or the old) find it particularly heavy to carry around?
-
-
Supposedly it's slightly lighter than than the 1535/1537 (6.1 pounds/around 3 kilos) by a fraction of a pound. I have no trouble carrying my 1535 around under my arm or in a backpack.

Searching for Dell Studio 1555 in google uk, brings up these two pages. Has anyone stumbled across them before?

The difference in price between those memory modules is not surprising. 2GB of DDR2 notebook memory is dirt cheap. I bought 2x2GB sticks for a 4GB kit for $40. 4GB sticks, though, are completely different. They're not very common, and much more expensive. That's why 4GB in a 2x2GB configuration is so cheap, but 4GB in a 1x4GB costs an arm and a leg. There's really no reason to get a single 4GB stick unless you're going to get two and do 8GB.

Apparently Dell has removed the dedicated graphics card options from all Studip 1555 builds on the US site...why?
-
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
Still not 100% clear on the display options-
15.6" High Definition (720p) LED- 1366x768 (and the only one Dell lists in Tech Specs or in the Setup Guide/Manual specifications).
15.6" High Definition + (900p) Bright LED- Possibly 1600x900? HP's recently revised dv7t has a 17.3" with 1600x900, so that seems like the new WXGA+ or WSXGA+....
15.6" Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED- 1920x1080
The 900p is described as "Bright" LED and the 1080p is "High Brightness". Does each of the three have different maximum brightness levels? -
-
This is just the paranoid pessimist in me but...what if they removed the upgrade option because the performance with this card included was too close to their more expensive models? -
Will someone please provide me with a GPU-Z screenshot from the 4570.
edit: nevermind, I found one on page #5. But it's incomplete. How many shaders does it really have? -
Dumb question, but doesn't 720p mean 1280x720? Why is it 1366x 768? -

One so the Best Purchases I have ever made
Pros:
First Impression: Wow. Looks great.
Really fast
Great looking Backlit Screen.
Amazing Battery life (9 Cell) Lasted more 5 hours when I was browsing internet, installing updates and applications, downloading files and copying CDs - all at the same time
(Power button lights up and as well as the power cord connector near the computer jack.)
Fantastic Backlit Keyboard. (Must get Upgrade. I cannot stress this one enough.)
Touchpad feels great.
Silver Palm rest: Feels very good and looks great.
Media Control Buttons are built in with the function keys work very well.
Really fast DVD/CD Drive.
Battery meter really helpful.
Amazing speakers for a laptop.
Subwoofer extremely good.
Fantastic Noise isolation ear buds. (Comes with the system)
Hard drive capacity is immense (320 GB) and very very quiet. (In an Elmer Fudd voice)
Neutral Points:
Took me 1 minute to find the Power On/Off Button on the right hand side of the hinge. First time I have ever had trouble finding a power button on a Dell.
Ruby Red color is good but not great (Would have preferred Blood Red). Attracts (permanent?) fingerprints.
Laptop does heat up a little bit but nothing to complain about.
Cons:
Windows Vista. Absolutely hate it. Will take some time to get used to it - 3 months or so. Would have preferred almost any other OS to Vista: XP, 2000 Ubuntu, Red Hat, Mac OSX.
Vista suddenly uses up all my CPU and Memory after hibernation and/or sleep modes. Needs reboot to get back to normal.
Bloatware in Vista and by Dell (Sorry Dell)
Face recognition software sometimes fast and also not very fast at times. Depends upon distance of face from screen. Need brightly lit room to function. Sometimes easier just to login manually.
Touchpad decreases/increases font size on web browser unintentionally. Touchpad a tad troublesome. Once I found the touch pad configuration it was easy to turn it off.
DVD/CD Slot near Power Cord and USB port makes it awkward to connect Power Cord and a USB device and eject DVD/CDS at the same time.
Slot load DVD drive will take some time getting used to. Doesn't read my scratched CDs very well even though my other Dell does.
Had to run a bunch of Windows updates and several reboots including a couple for McAfee right after getting it out of the box. That's not very unusual but some people might find it annoying.
Be careful with the F2 button. It is also the wireless network and Bluetooth switch on/off button.
I turned off my wireless networking and Bluetooth by accident and couldn't figure it out even after several driver updates and reboots.
Laughed myself silly over this, but if a person is not used to multi use switches; they can get very easily frustrated.
Had trouble initially, configuring the with Dell BH-200 Bluetooth headset with this laptop. If you are an expert you can get it after a couple of tries.
Not happy with Power button - sometimes the computer goes to sleep or hibernate. Still haven't figured out how long to hold the button to switch off; always end up doing it from Vista. -
^ it must b 2009, right?
-
Yes. Typo. Damn cut and paste.
-
One more thing. Need 2 hands to open the laptop. One to hold base another to lift the screen. If you use one the whole thing lifts up. Kind of annoying.
-
Do u have problems like, the fan blowing dust to the display...? -
Can i ask how you found them? Or when they came up?
Dont like the fact they dont have a backlit keyboard option, prices also seem to have gone up considerably! (guessing this will be fairly close to final release) -
The fan is located at the bottom of the laptop so haven't noticed any dust blowing on to the screen but the speaker and built in sub woofer is located directly below the screen so that might do it but unlikely.
I lively in very dusty city and although my Dell Studio 1555 has been at home in the bedroom/living room; I have notice dust particles being attracted and sticking to the ruby red covering. Have to use a soft cloth to clean it off. The screen get a little dusty but not much. : -

I wish I'm in UK.
I brought my computer about half year ago for Config 5 price. -
Sitll wouldnt mind knowing how the guy came about those Dell UK config options, if it was put online recently then the release might not be far away. If it was a few weeks ago then we still might have 2 sit on our hands and watch the rest of the world! (as per usual) -
hi everyone!
what about the keyboard flex? is it better on this model?
i was near to buy the Vostro 1520 but now i dont know what to do.

Anyway I'm in bulgaria and I must wait more time.
but the prices are really good, and in UK you have monthly salary for regular job about 1500-2000 pounds. In bulgaria if you are very good you will get 500-700 pounds as monthly salary.
Oh well I hope Studio 1555 will comes to Europa as soon as possible. It is really nice dell, compared to Studio XPS (current price in bulgaria about 1500-2000 EURO) -

The 1555 just launched in Europe (I have seen it at least in Spain and UK)
By the way, maybe somebody with the Mobility 4570 could join the benchmark posting. -
I see it has gone live on dell's UK site but prices have gone up quite a bit. Seems like there is a base £50 increase and nothing in the way of offers.
I just bought a second 1537 for £519 and the same spec 1555 is £738 - (apart from the higher res and better GPU).
Surprising really as the new version is missing USB ports, its bigger doesn't have media touch buttons and doesn't have the option for backlit keys. So you don't seem to get as much for your money. -
I agree, I have to say that I am disappointed with the price increase and the lack of options. I am hoping that they get more options soon particularly higher res screens and backlight keyboards. Did you guys who already purchased have limited options for a while? -
Here in Belgium the prices are quite great if you chose the right option (=middle one, strangely enough codes are not shown in new website lay-out here)
For 814, EUR (= 728£ or 1083 USD) you get:
P8600, 1 year CAR-warranty, 15.6 (1366*768) screen, 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200 rpm, 512 MB ATI Mobility Radeon 4570, DVD-drive, 6-cell battery, no bluetooth and intel wifi 5100.
You can't find such a good configuration in Belgian stores at this price
Okay, bleutooth is 35 extra (but I rarely use it, that's why I didn't put it here). We don't have the option of a backlit keyboard and higher resolution screens.
Bummer, but maybe if you contact a Dell salesman, they can give it to you or give you more information at least. (Here in Belgium we still have intelligent call centers Our language is too complicated for Indian people learn and well not a lot of people in the world speak dutch. For once a great advantage!)
I don't what is there too complain? Price has gone up a little (probably prices were low for the 1537 because they had to get rid of it guys ) but it is still a great price! Be happy for god's sake! -
Hi!
Urghs, is this supposed to be a joke? The new Studio 1555 is now available in Germany, too. But the configuration you get for 499€ sucks big time, at least compared to the old prices in Germany. I mean, what is that?:
- Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core-Processor T4200 (2,0 GHz, 1 MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
- 15,6-Zoll-WXGA-LED-Widescreen-Display (1.366 x 768)
- 1 yr. warranty
- 2.048 MB 800 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM
- SATA-Harddrive 160 GB (5.400 1/min)
- Intel GMA 4500MHD
- no backlit keyboard (haha, option is not available)
and the rest is all standard (so nothing, no blue ray and stuff of course)
a pretty decent system is 1000€+?!?! It used to be like 300 bucks cheaper or so, I mean, ?? This is really too expensive. What do they intend? Do they want to make ppl. buy more inspirions and studio xps because everyone just bought studios?
And what about a Dell Studio 17 revision?
I really wanted to buy a Studio and was ready to wait, but now I'm not so sure anymore. The latest HP Pavilion models seem nice, too.
Cheers,
Alex
