I tried undervolting with CPU RM at first, but with poor results - small voltage drops and BSODs. But after i try CPUgenie 1.4 - it was ok, i can go to 2.2Ghz to 0.875V only, at 2533 drops from 1.05 to 0.975 and heat drops from 70 to 55 degrees in high load.
BUT.. it has hitch. Big one. CPUgenie in my case cause HIGH CPU load after resuming from hibernation, and sometimes whned i listen musis. atudiodg.exe and svchost.exe conflicts, after disable power management in CPUgenie is all normal, so i write to support about this bug and wait for response - because at tihs moment this SW is useles. Wats thats you save in lovering voltage eats high CPU load of CPUgenie at iddle (50% CPU time after hybernation, and arround 10-20 with audio and other conflicts).
So, it there other SW to undervolt CPU ( thats works correct? )

I am in search of any coupons for a Studio 1555...anyone got one?
Basically I'd like these specs for less than $800 after tax:
Midnight Blue
2.2GHz/800MHz/2MB Processor
4GB RAM
512MB Graphics
6 Cell Battery
Backlit Keyboard
Wireless-N
Bluetooth
Right now the best I'm able to find is $970 after tax. I am kicking myself for not using a stackable $100 EPP coupon last month when there was a free upgrade from integrated to 512MB ATI graphics card...would've been able to get the above configuration for just over $700 out the door...FFFUUUUU -
Edit: sorry, I just saw you have a P8700. Not sure why T6600 is locked to 1.000V, and P8700 is not. -
Hmm, wierd, some HW lock, mine is at 0.875 and no go lower. But anyway.. CPUgenie support telling that they making fix of high CPU load. The release beta every moment

I still can't accept noise levels of my Studio 1555. After being turned on for a few hours, fan is working approximately 50% of the time and I can't call the fan the most quiet thing in the world. How often does your fan work on light load?
My (almost) idle temperatures are around 40C as seen in SpeedFan and around 54C as seen in HWMonitor. -
Sorry in advance if this is dense question... do our notebooks have serial numbers?
I need a serial number for some insurance info, but for the life of me, I can't find one on this notebook. I see the service tag and express service code, but that's just a sticker. -

Urgent Help required as my Studio Laptop of 5 months old is not booting up, it's giving some Hard Drive reading(crackling) noise and my backlit light of the keyboard is switching on, that's it, nothing happens also the monitor is not switching on, tried no of times, Guys is that means my HD or BIOS corrupted?, or is there any other problem which is preventing me to switching on my laptop.
Any help is appreciated. -
Ok, I'm not sure what the masses on the internet are on about, but Dell support is AWESOME!!!!
I shipped the box with the laptop to them two days ago, and it came back today. I thought Purolator must have screwed up and sent it right back to me, but nope! The laptop came back. Here's the thing though, they upgraded me to a 1080p screen for FREE! They also fixed some very minor issues I asked them to look at, namely a creaky bottem panel and a loose left click button. I've never been more pleased with the support from a company, this is purely awesome! The maximum fan speed seems much quieter too, either they revised the design or the heat paste was applied poorly the first time around. Either way, I couldn't be happier. -

anyone here have problem using multimedia button (F1-F12) in windows 7?
i recently clean installed windows 7 home premium using dell upgrade dvd and sometimes cannot mute sound using F7 button

anyone here have solution? -
Guys I need your advice here. I recently received my XPS 1645, beautiful machine but unfortunately its plagued by the throttling issue that dell wont admit. Im still within my 21 days and im contemplating on returning it and getting the 1555 instead. Im not a gamer just internet and music. However I like nice looking screen(1080). I know its a downgrade especially screen and vga card and cheaper too. Besides those, are there any problems with 1555? Anything similar to xps problems? any problems i should be aware of before committing? I heard of heating and build quality issues with 1555 especially with i7 cpu. Confirm?
Please give your input. -

i have just recently purchased dell studio 15
By default the system came with only one drive visible that is OS(C: ).I checked disk management and found three partitions one is 196MB Healthy OEM partition, second is RECOVERY 9.12GB NTFS and the third one is OS(C: ) 456.45GB NTFS.
so the total comes upto 465.76GB but i purchased the 500GB hard drive....where is the remaining space?
what i am supposed to do with recovery?
and I'd also like to know how to do further partitions of my HDD so that i can keep different type of data in different drives? -
The touchpad gets warm due to the placement of the wireless card - without a redesign this is not going to change. You can minimalise the impact of this though by reducing the power settings. Most of us don't actually need the range afforded by the highest power settings anyway. -
OK, so you know decimal is a numbering system base 10. Well binary is a numbering system base 2. HDD manufacturers label their hard drives based on decimal, i.e. 1GB = 1000MB, 1MB = 1000KB, 1KB = 1000B. And they are absolutely correct to do so.
Your operating system however bases it's volumes on the binary system, where 1GB = 1024MB, 1MB = 1024KB, 1KB = 1024B.
OK, so let's keep this simple and say you have a 100MB HDD (as labeled from the manufacturer). This would mean that in terms of bytes you have 100 x 1000 x 1000 = 100 million bytes.
Now your OS (operating system) uses binary, and so we'll calculate backwards using the number of bytes: (100,000,000 / 1024)/1024 = 95.37MB
Now both answers are right.
The problem is really about marketing. If you had a choice between the same spec machine with a 95.37MB HDD or a 100MB, which would you opt for?
Now the argument against standardising this is that the HDD manufacturers think the OS should change how it displays it, whereas the OS programmers think the opposite. -
SO since im not a gamer, u think the 1555 should do the job? -
quite an amusing addition to my knowledge thanks Fragilexx
now I'd love to see the answers to my other questions as well
what i am supposed to do with recovery?
and I'd also like to know how to do further partitions of my HDD so that i can keep different type of data in different drives?
i am a n00b -
With regards to the partitions - you can buy a third party app (not needed), there's probably some free ones too (again not really needed), you could re-install your OS and re-partition it there (probably not a good idea if you are new to this), or you could partition based on the windows tool - probably a good starting point.
Go to start > control panel > administrative tools > computer management
On the left hand side you should click "disk management". You should then see the already created partitions on your disk. Right click on your C: drive and shrink the volume to the size you want. This may take some time. You will then see an unused partition, you can right click this and create a new partition for your data.
It's not the best way of doing it by a long shot - that would probably be by re-installing your OS and when choosing the drive to install on you can go to advanced options to change partitions etc.
Here is a link that shows with screen shots what I am talking about.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2674-partition-volume-create-new.html
However, if you are feeling more adventurous, it might be worth your time in trying to do it on a clean installation. -
does anybody happen to have A06 bios file. i updated to A08 but now the eject button isnt working anymore.
-
Download DELL QUICKSET from you driver and download page and it should fix your problem.

My friend just ordered a Dell 1555 and it should be here today or tomorrow. Im going to reformat with a fresh Windows 7 and stuff. Is there anything I should know in regards to these models? I know there were a lot of issues and a set of instructions from someone for my Vaio.

Wes of StarArmy Notebook Consultant
Hendricks433, it will probably not be necessary to reinstall Windows. My 1555 (purchased in late October) came with almost no crapware on it. The only things you may want to remove are the Dell Dock and maybe Datasafe. I think you'll be pleased enough with it that you'll decide reinstalling everything is unnecessary like I did.
-
-
Firstly, try not to use profanities please.
Secondly, why do you not want to install it? What makes you think it is not up to par? If it is with regards to the amount of processes etc, I can assure you, it uses less than 10MB of memory to run, and uses no discernible overhead in terms of processor usage or disk i/o.
Personally I don't know if it will solve your problem or not - but you are not even willing to try? -
-
However, I do agree that from the sounds of things, this machine should be fine for your usage. Keep in mind though that once you have a machine that is capable of some things, you nearly always end up wanting it to be capable of something more -
Its also good to know it doesnt come with tons of crap on it. All the laptops I have bought, have come with so much junk. -
-
As long as Dell is made aware of the problem, they will no doubt correct it in the next release. Until then, if quickset is the solution, I do not understand your reluctance. -
to avoid running in circles, does anybody have A06 bios file?

Hi,
I wanted to enable Wakeup-on-LAN (WoL) in my Dell Studio 1555 laptop to access it remotely. I have enabled the options in the my Broadcom Ethernet adapter but I guess it must also be set up in the BIOS for it to work properly. But I couldn't find any relevant option in the BIOS. I'm using the latest BIOS version A08. How do I enable WoL in my BIOS now? Any help would be much appreciated.
Also pls suggest a good software to automatically update all my drivers. I have tried a few but wasn't satisfied with the results. -
Hi
What do you guys think about this config on a Dell Studio 1555?
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
RAM: 4GB DDR2 @ 800MHz
HD: 250GB SATA @ (5400RPM)
Video: 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Screen: 15.6" 720p
Battery: 6 Cells Li-Ion
WiFi: Dell Wireless 1520 802.11n Half Mini-Card
BT: Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Internal (2.1)
... And the another stuff
I'm not going to play high demanding games. I'll use it mostly for Internet surfing and for the Uni tasks, some signal processing, audio, those things.
I need to think fast because it's in an special price till 24.12. It would cost me 899 USD
Thanks for your answers -
the hdd capacity seems a bit not enuf for me
better get 320GB hdd or more -
Hey guys, how much difference does the 'High Brightness' screen make???

Also anyone upgraded their HardDisk to new firmware available on Dell Site under SATA Drivers?
If Yes wats the changelog? and how did u do it? -
-
-
i followed instructions to put the firmware on a cd (not dvd) then booted from it. Imgburn worked on the default settings. If u have a seagate drive i highly recommend it as mine was causing windows to hang everytime the hard drive clicked.

You can find the BIOS A06 there:
