I just found this site and just picked up a 1555 used yesterday (OS= Win 7 Home Prem). I'm a newbee so please excuse me if I make errors, as I am here to learn. I intend to replace the palm rest/touchpad part of the case (excessive wear spots on touchpad and left button). I was wondering if I could replace the keyboard (non-backlight) with one that is backlit or is there something internal that would prevent this from working? The eject button on the keyboard does not work so I go thru the -My computer-DVD/CD drive and eject that way. I assume that it is a bad key on the keyboard. So replacing the keyboard at the same time makes sense.
Second, can not find where the computer indicates that the Caps Lock is on. Since there are no lights (like I am use to with previous laptops) and do not see any indication on the task bar or anywhere else on the screen. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help.

When you press Caps Lock you will get an on screen indication for about 1s either "A" or "a".

Many new laptops don't have a physical indication of caps lock is on, Dell's have a habit of showing a temporary flashing icon on your LCD to indicate that XX has been toggled on/off. Also do you have Dell's QuickSet software installed?
