Im thinking of buying a refurb 1555 on ebay and just wanted to see if there any major bugs/quirks/design faults with the 1555? I'm particularly interested in how noisy it is at idle and at full load. Is it above average for noise and heat?

    Spec is Core 2 duo P8600 or T6600, 4gb ram, ATI 4570, 320gb HD (5400 or 7200), 1366x768 LCD

    Thanks!

im pretty happy with mine, just a few minor complaints.
    1. only 3 usb ports, and the one on the right is next to the power in cable, so a thumbdrive wont fit there.
    2. my gpu keeps overheating, but i am planning to replace the thermal paste and clean all dust later this summer.

    i think thats about it.

    Thanks chaugh,

Do you think the GPU heat issue is down to dust or has it been like that since purchase?

I'm very happy with my 1555. I've had it for about 2 years now, and it's purring.

I've got a 9-cell on it by default, and if you're looking for good battery life, do some undervolting using RMClock. There are guides all around this forum, and it's where I got my info from.
Currently my CPU runs at 2.40Ghz on 0.875 volts, which is 1-step above the lowest for RMClock. Gets me over 6 hours if I turn off wireless.

One little quirk for me is the lid's a little loose, and squeaks if it's on my lap and my leg is shaking, but it's no biggy, and otherwise perfect.

I've had my 1555 for almost a year now. I love it, so far no problems whatsoever. I use it for HD movies, Gaming (WoW, Heroes of Newerth, Counter Strike mainly) and it has been great. Dell does a great job in keeping drivers up to date. Windows 7 runs like a charm on here.

As for the noise, it is very quiet. As long as you are not playing games or doing something that heats up the laptop the fan usually is very quiet. I could do homework (word, powerpoint, surfing) fine in the school library for hours and the fan never kicks in, quiet :)

Heat, this is the coolest laptop I've owned. I've had HPs and Acers. It gets warm on your lap if you're watching an HD movie for an hour or so. Its not unbearable hot like in my old HP Dv6000.

I'm thinking of upgrading to the newer models with the new chips, but I can't find anything I don't like about this laptop to merit the upgrade. Basically, I can't find an excuse to get rid of it :D

I've just gotten mine.. Seems to be running fine... Uber-quiet... My dv6000 died on me due to heat damage so here's to hoping this one doesn't suffer the same fate...
