I came back to my computer today and for no explicable reason there was a little tiny hole in the palm rest (The silver part beneath the keyboard). Ugly as hell.

I will, but the best way to describe the hole is if you look at the mic hole (the two holes on each side of the webcam at the top of the monitor bezel). Basically that size, ugly and in the middle of my palmrest on the right side.
I put one of the stickers that came with it back on that spot..

That's definitely weird...what could puncture a hole that small?

Anyway, the palmrest is pretty easy, but slightly tedious to replace. You have to remove the display panel first, and make sure you keep track of where all your screws come from.

Does dell allow you to change the palmrest under warranty or do you have to return the notebook to the depot.

The palmrest is a user-replaceable part. Just make sure you don't damage anything in the process, but it's a pretty straightforward procedure anyway. As I said before, just take your time, follow Dell's instructions, and keep track of which screws come from what part.
