I have a Dell Studio 1555 that I bought earlier this year. Recently (the last week or so), my screen will randomly go black. It doesn't shut off, it just goes black with the only remedy being a forced restart by holding the power button.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and all my drivers and the BIOS are up to date. My virus protection doesn't find anything either. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Perhaps your screen is dying, when it goes black does is it still lit or is it just black as if it was off?

It still appears lit. I've also run a hardware diagnostic that found no problems.

    That's really odd, try this:

    1. Shut Down Your Notebook
    2. Take out your RAM and put it back in (reseating the memory).
    3. Restart your notebook.

Tell me if the problem still permits, if so then I would venture to guess that your video card is corrupted.

Either your inverter is going out or the backlight is going out on the LCD. It is cheaper to replace the inverter so I would try that first. The first step would be to plug it into an external monitor and see if it shows up on there.
