Hey everyone, long time no see! My Fiance has a Studio 1555 that was dropped while in sleep mode, then it was unable to boot. I took the HD out, hooked it up via USB and it works fine, when you turn it on you can hear the HD spin and DVD drive work, but thats it, no post, nothing else. I took the entire computer apart to see if anything got disconnected or cracked, and I did not see any visible damage. Also I've hooked it up to an external monitor and still nothing.

Anyone have thoughts on to what could be the culprit? I think its the Mobo since it won't even attempt to boot, I've already took out the CMOS battery and put it back in and tried to boot again, but no luck.

I'd like to either repair it and sell it, or just sell parts off it, just need to know what I can/can't sell or what I'd need to get it working again.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!
    -Matt

you can try booting with a base config

remove the hard drive, CD ROM, Wireless cards, and try booting with a single memory DIMM, and try in each DIMM slot, test with each DIMM.

You can try to re-seat the CPU as well if not already.

but I would guess your moterhboard is damaged some where.

I get the feeling in dropping it, something with the power connector got killed. Part it out, sell the cpu / gpu / other bits, and write it off. Laptop mobos are proprietary, and dell won't cover such an injury. (They have a forensic team that's actually supposed to look for signs of abuse, a drop (intentional or otherwise) counts as such abuse.) I would also not be surprised if there was HDD damage because even though the computer went to sleep, do not assume that the heads went into their "off position", there may well be a head-crash somewhere (which you'd know as the sound would be like nails on a blackboard).

Start with reseating stuff, but I don't have much hope for the system. Sounds like something somewhere went plotz.

If you have complete Care warranty Dell would cover this
