I noticed that Dell has added a support page for a new laptop named Studio 1555. Is it possible that a new Dell Studio is coming out? The biggest difference in terms of hardware is that it will be equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 video card apparently. Click the link below to find out. :)

Update: A couple of countries have begun selling it!

Differences between Studio 1555 and 1535/1537
    1. Discrete Graphic Card: 256MB/512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 vs 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
    2. LCD Display: 15.6 inch (16:9) vs 15.4 inch (16:10)
    3. (4) USB 2.0 compliant 4-pin ports vs (3) USB 2.0 compliant 4-pin ports
    4. 54 mm ExpressCard slot vs 34 mm ExpressCard slot
    5. Width: 371.6mm vs 355.6mm
    6. Height (back) : 38.9mm vs 33mm
    7. Depth: 252.9mm vs 261.5mm
    8. Weight: Starting weight of 5.54 lbs (2.515 kg) with 15.6” HD TL LED, 6-cell battery, integrated graphics and a DVD+RW drive vs Starting weight of 6.11 lbs. (2.77 kg) (15.4" WXGA TL display, 6 cell battery, DVD +/- RW, integrated graphics)

nice find, ps89! And the link is working - at least it is right now ;) ....... I wonder when this might replace the current Studio 15? Does anyone know how long these links tend to pop up before the models are released?

The link worked for me ... kind of makes me wish I'd waited, according to benchmarks the new card is 2 to 3 times faster then the 3470. Wonder if the speakers or media buttons are fixed, maybe the parts are interchangeable.

I got a really good deal on my laptop thought, still haven't seen it come within $150+ what I paid, so I suspect this will be priced higher then I'd want to pay for a while.

Nice find! That will be a great GPU for the Studio 15 for sure. I think this is the new model with edge to edge screen too.

Thanks guys. I happened to notice it while I was searching for Studio 1535 drivers. It seems that they are adding more and more drivers for Studio 1555. Good thing it has a subwoofer! I guess the sound quality of this new Studio will be a lot better than the ones we have now. Thanks for providing the link, Mercellus! :)

I performed a search for "studio 1755" at the dell site and found nothing, while the search "studio 1555" found the links reported above and others. Maybe it's coming later, or has a different model number.

I'm in the market for a new lappy and it looks like this version fixes the main problems I had with the Studio 15 (the crap sound and graphics card), so it would jump to the top of my list, as long as it's coming out before 2010, that is :D

So does anyone know how often these versions of the Studio succeed each other? Was 1537 info leaked before its release (and if so how long before)? I assume Dell wouldn't publish webpages and drivers months in advance but from what I've read in the XPS forum they dragged out releasing the Studio XPSs forever, ages after things had popped up on the website!

Omg, I had been waiting for the Studio XPS 16 for year and now waiting for discount on it, however this one seems to be very cool as well, I need subwoofer and I don't really want 16:9.

How is this 4570 compare with the 3670 in Studio XPS 16?

Yeah I'd like to know that, too. I was initially very excited about the SXPS 16, but then reported problems with the heat as well as the old-gen card it's using put me of a bit.

If the 4570 can perform as well as the 3670 graphics and gaming-wise, I'm all for the Studio 15!

I`ve just bought a 1537. Since it`s possible to cancel the offer the first two weeks after delievery in germany, it would be reeeeally interesting for me to know until monday, when the new Studio will come out ;o)!

I asked some retail agents about the 1537, but covered no news for now. If anyone got news, please post it.

    Thanks a lot,

    loswurstos

P.s. Does anyone know anything about price jumps related to the launch of the 1536 or the 1537?

Skimming through the manual it looks like they changed the ports around a bit ... only a 34mm expresscard slot on the right side with SD card and a single USB under the CD slot. It looks like they've done away with the touch sensitive media buttons and put them on the function keys.

That's a shame. I thought that layout was really attractive, and the few times I've tried it it was consistent and responsive.

The manual says the 1555 is still rocking 800mhz DDR2...they've got to be kidding, right?

The 4570 has a 64bit memory bus while the 3670 is 128bit and should perform better overall, at least according to Notebookcheck anyway.

You think I can swap out my 3450 with the 4570 because they have the same bus speed. ANd its basically the same laptop I have the DELL studio 15
How good is that card 4570

Since the Studio`s graphics card is always integrated in the mainboard, I`m pretty sure there won`t be a swapping-possibility...

The new video card is the one thing I really wish I had ... hopefully a simple swap would be possible. There was some debate on if the chip is soldered down or not. If this was an nvidia chip it would probably be an easy swap, since pretty much all 9xxx cards are just renamed and tweaked 8xxxx cards.

I'm not as impressed with the 1555's new port layout, no remote, and missing the touch sensitive media buttons which are great when they work. I also prefer a 16:10 vs the 16:9 screen size. The new speakers and subwoofer would be nice, but I was able to upgrade my speakers a bit, and if I want to do anything serious I have USB speakers which would be better than anything built into a laptop. Now I'm not as concerned with my recent 1537 purchase.

I wish I would have waited. The hd 4570 is a class 2 card meaning mid range. and is triple the performance of the 3450. :(

Emphasis added on the "when". Unfortunately, I had to return a 1537 in part due to the media buttons. The eject key would stay lit, then decide it wanted to shut off and eject a disc at random.

I'd take the change as a positive, although I admit those keys looked nice. Seems like an admission by Dell that the touch sensitive keys caused more than their fair share of problems.

These are up for sale on the dell new zealand site:

    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/pro...px/laptop_studio_15?c=nz&cs=nzdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

Am a little annoyed as I just recieved my dell 1537 from a courier today from dell nz, and while i'm very happy with it (typing this on it even!) the GPU was the one thing I was a little worried about being underpowered.

Also interesting is that the new gpu (at least at the moment/on that site) is only available with a new 15.6" WLED screen. According to the specs is slightly lighter too (2.56kg vs. 2.71kg starting weight w/ the 6 cell), but also slightly thicker at the screen end.

Stupid dell waiting for the day mine arrived to release it!

I think that new gpu could defintally be change with the 3450. Its an upgrade option and it should use the same motherboard. Anyways how much is 1999 New zealand to us currency?

Dell usually rolls out their new week's deals every thursday, so I suspect it'll be here in a few hours. I think Dell tends to charge more outside the US, but it doesn't look like much of a difference between 3450 1537 and the new 1555

It is a bit sad that Dell does not offer newer generation middle-high graphic card (ATi 46xx up/GF 96xx up) in their new models.

Anyway, can't wait to see how does the 4570 perform, as well as what vRAM it uses.

    Btw, how is DDR2 800MHz compare with DDR3 1067MHz?

Seems like the new Studio 15 is already available on Dell India. This baby is looking better and better IMO. The sweet thing is it's even got a 512MB option for the HD4570 card!

Will Dell release it to the rest of the world already!

Is this true, since its a 64bit bus (which is weak for the card) wouldnt it not be able to use the full 512mb of ram. I think it limits it to 128mb of ram.
Please tell me if this is correct.

512mb probably isn't worth the extra cost for a card at this level at the base screen resolution ... it looks like it adds about 50% to the price. The bus width has more to do with bandwidth and doesn't really affect how much memory can be accessed.

Sorry, I didn't mean it adds 50% to the cost of the laptop, ie $500 to a $1000 laptop, I meant if the 256mb card was $100, the 512mb would be 50% more, $150.

I believe last night on the new zealand site they offered the 1555 with the base 4500 graphics and you could upgrade to the 256 or 512mb so you could see both of the upgrade costs, but it appears now it's only available with the 512mb card.
