If they aren't on the Dell website, they're not yet available. Dell seem to think (with some justification) that considering Vista is nearly two years old, and they don't sell the machines with XP, that providing drivers for it is unnecessary. They usually do in the end, however, so just wait a while and keep checking the website.

You can probably pick up most of the drivers from the specific manufacturers' websites, for instance the wireless card, but no guarantees.

The Wickmanstudios link would be your use best. I have used it to help others with XP.

For the most part they use the same components so the drivers should be interchangeable.

In my experience the Dell Studio 1537 Laptop is one of the hardest machines to find working Windows XP drivers for. It took me a while but in the end I was able to get every single device working properly on Windows XP SP3 and on Windows XP x64 Edition SP2. I have put together complete driver bundles and corresponding step by step instructions for these OS releases. In addition to Windows XP SP3 and Windows XP x64 Edition SP2 I also worked out the drivers for Windows 7 beta 64 bit. I created step-by-step instructions for this as well. These driver packages and resources can be accessed on my web servers at: http://samsware.com

This site is free for the online community and we encourage people to help out with this cooperative project. SamsWare.com is currently under construction however it will soon have full functionality. This site will allow users (sign up is free) to ask questions, post technical solutions and upload files (such as drivers) for others to view and download. Users will also have to opportunity to monitor their own boards by becoming a SamsWare administrator. If everyone helps out then every one wins!

A lot of work has gone into the SamsWare OS support project and we ask that you consider making a small donation if you are able to do so. Your help and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I wasted a lot of time trying to get XP to work on the Dell Studio 1537. I won't exactly say that I have given up, but I have been humbled. With all due respect to the hard work of others, the Wickmanstudios drivers followed by the samsware drivers turned my notebook into overpriced doorstop.

In contrast, the Linux Ubuntu 9.04 install was a no brainer - works great on my 1537 and it is a more user friendly interface than XP.

Solaris Express Build 113 is also OK on the 1537 (what I am typing into right now) but the wireless WPA network was a bit tricky.

Anyone get Dell Quickset to work ? At the moment, I'm using Microsoft Intellitype software to drive the media buttons, but really wanted to get Quickset working so Power Management would also be a feature.

I notice that under the "sams hardware driver" provided by Wug, there is a directory 1537 drivers / 7. Optional / Applications / Quickset ?
    Does that help you ?

    Hey there!!

I have just purchased a 1537 laptop with vista

I have never changed an operating system before, tho i am aware you need to make note of the drivers, whats the best way for me to go about switching to XP.

I have downloaded the samsware driver package

Do i literally just have that on my external and XP on disk? Then install XP and when i reach the desktop install each driver seperate or will XP automatically do it for me =/ HELP!!

    thanks, Dean

Amongst the samsware stuff there is an installation guide; you should follow that.

You'll need to install many of the drivers yourself after installing Windows.

Ok fair enough!! If i simply just go through each of his steps it should be fine?

Does his package include all the drivers i will need or are there extras elsewhere???

One thing im not too sure on.. partitioning? Is it easier to make a new partition with the XP and then once its sorted delete the vista partition? Thanks

It's a bit risky to delete the one partition with a working OS because if something goes wrong during OS installation (somewhat unlikely) it poses a bit more of a challenge to fix. What I would recommend is to partition first a bunch of space just for the OS on the unpartitioned space, leaving the remaining unpartitioned. After installation, you can go back and reformat the Vista partition, and then allocate all the remaining space into one larger partition. This would leave you with one small partition for the OS and one much larger partition for data, programs, w/e.

    Hi
The installation of samware drivers was smooth but...
    I can't read SDHC cards :/
In the device manager there is no exclamations on Ricoh SD adapters/controllers.
After inserting SDHC card, the new disk appears in explorer (described as SD/MMC) but when I've try to acces this disc message "Please insert disc" appears.

    regards,
    Gregory
PS: something important - afetr inserting SDHC card I immediately get a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error. The detail screen shows szModName ntmssvc.dll 5.1.2400.5512 and svchost 5.1.2600.5512. Thi is similar to the problem described here:
