Ordered a Dell Studio 1537 on Thursday 26th March. Estimated delivery time is 14th April. To be honest with you. I think that is a bit of a long wait. Not very happy. On the other hand the payment cleared and it also went through pre-production within a day. It has been in production(phase 3) for 3 days now.

    Other than that....

What do you guys think of it. Good laptop? My main specs are Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T4200 (2.0GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache), 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450, 160 GB HDD.

    Thanks

It's certainly a good machine. Those specs are similar to what I bought at first, although I've made some upgrades since then (T9500, 4GB RAM).

I think you'll be quite happy when you get it. :D

Also, my estimated delivery date ended up being way off. Mine arrived nearly 2 weeks before the estimated date. Hopefully you'll be as lucky. :p

Hey man. Thanks for the reply. Has made me feel much happier now! :D
One question... how do you think mine will handle games that demand a top spec? Iv'e never played games on a PC or Laptop. Well apart from Football Manager.

I will be so happy if it does come as quick as that!

The Mobility Radeon 3450 is a decent gaming graphics card. It won't run very high-end stuff smoothly, but if you play Source Engine games (Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: Source, etc.) it performs very well.

It all depends on what games we're talking about, and on what settings. Care to list some examples of what games you'd like to play on this thing?

Ok. Thanks. The only game i will be playing is Football Manager. Thats all. Well actually maybe The Sims if a new one comes out. Or i might actually get the latest The Sims game. I was just curious thats all! :D
Oh and whats the difference between the Studio 1535 and the 1537. 1537 is the one i got.

    Thanks

Football Manager and any Sims game will pretty much run on tin cans (you could play those even with an Intel integrated graphics card). You shouldn't have any trouble with those.

The difference between the 1535 and 1537 is the chipset. Yours uses the PM45 or GM45 chipset, compared to my Studio 15 which uses the PM965 (or GM965) chipset.

That basically means that you have more options if you ever want to upgrade your processor in the future. :)

Also, the 1537 has RAM frequency of 800MHz, as opposed to the 1535's 667MHz.

Hey man. Thanks. Reasures me even more now. :D
This morning Dell have taken the money out of my bank account so does this mean it could be getting dispatched soon? Still says its "In Production" though on my Order Status.

Well im not too sure now. It has been a week since i ordered the Laptop and it has been 'In Production' for 6 days now. They took the money out yesturday morning but no sign of it getting dispatched i.e no emails or phonecalls. So maybe they just take the money whenever they feel like it. I don't really know.

    *UPDATE*

Still not recieved My Studio 1537. Order placed the morning of Thursday 26th March. Estimated delivery date of the 14th April only for me to go and check my order status and yes a new estimated delivery date of 6th of May!!!

This is 4 weeks from now and will be 6 weeks since i placed the order. Absolutoly SHOCKING! Not happy at all. Was also told by Dell's Customer Service that i would definately recieve my laptop on or before the original delivery date even although there is a high demand for the product.

Sorry for my rant but im extremely ****ed of now. Anybody else been in this situation?

    Thanks

I ordered my Studio 15 on 24.03.09 with a delivery date of 8th April. I went for the next model up, with the Core 2 Duo T6400 processor and 3GB of ram. After searching the net for a discount code, I got and exra 10% off, so my upgrade only cost me an extra £26.

Anyway, I had an automated message ring my home phone to confirm a deliver date of 31.03.09 and had to select either morning or afternoon. I selected morning between 8am and 1pm and it actually came at 7.20 am, so be aware they can come early.

You can track the parcel through the website as well.

So far I have been pleased with the it, but did notice that two days after ordering the spec went up and the prices went down..... but that always happens. The speakers aren't vet loud even on 100%, but I didn't buy it to listen to music! I think that the internal speakers are a common gripe with this laptop but it depends what you want it for.

Hell thats a quick delivery. Lucky you. Well that does give me some hope . This thursday will be the original estimated delivery date. What i don't understand is why push it back even further? Another 4 weeks. Obviously if you recieved yours so fast then there should be no delays. Its not on really. You would have to be a very nice and patient person to wait 6 weeks to recieve a laptop. Which is what i have been quoted.

Anyhoo thanks for your reply :D

That's an easy fix. Just uninstall the IDT audio drivers that Dell provides, reboot, and let Vista install its own HD audio driver. It's much louder and clearer.

Hi guys again. Although i found out this morning that my order's estimated delivery date had been changed from the 14th April to the 6th May, i went on a minute ago and checked my order status just too see what its saying and OMFG it has changed to Delivery Preparation! Now im trying not to be too happy with this until i know that my laptop really has been completely built. Can anyone confirm that when it goes to Delivery Preparation that it is completely built? I really hope it is.

    Thanks

I just shipped mine back yesterday after 8 hours of battling customer service, which I won't get into. The touch sensative media bar issue and the awful sound quality of the speakers were enough to turn me off to it. I didn't hate the whole package though. The WLED screen was beautiful, the backlit keyboard is such a convenient option, the overall design was really nice and the system was fast, which only made the two glaring issues for me even worse. I wanted to like it, I really did. Let us know what you think once it's in your hands.

Well im just hoping i don't have an issue with the media bar. The speaker issue probably won't affect me as im not going to be using them that much. Although i am led to believe that if you uninstall the IDT drivers then restart Windows, Vista should automatically install its own HD audio drivers which supposadly makes the sound much louder and clearer so i shall be trying this out.

Btw it has been dispatched although my estimated delivery date had been pushed back a month. Very happy now as it could actually come on or before the original estimated date! :D

p.s When i track my order it goes to the Walsh Western website. It tells me that there is a scheduled delivery date of 16/04/09. (next thursday)
Is that when it will come or is this another estimate?

*It also says that it Departed Manu.Facility (Location - LODZ)!! Thats in bloody Poland???*

    Thanks

Not to be a party pooper, but don't get your hopes up for that. I've only heard of very few cases where a Studio notebook was not affected by this, and even the most recent ones still seem to have it. Luckily, it's not a crippling disadvantage, and sorts itself out after 10 minutes (and can be prevented if you regularly discharge your capacitors).
I highly recommend it. The IDT audio drivers themselves are crap, and their included software is just more bloatware. The only thing I can think of that you might lose is the ability to use two headphone jacks at the same time, which I never used anyway.

Got the phonecall from the courier! :D :D cannot wait! Getting delivered on Thursday! (Touch wood!)

Me personally I ordered my Studio 1537 Special Edition on 04-02-09 and I just logged into Dell's site and said it shipped out today! They gave me a date of 04-21 so it should be here tomorrow a week early, WOOT!!!

I hope you get yours sooner, best of luck!

    Peace,
