Hi all. I was approved for a DPA (Dell Perferred Account) and I am set to buy a new Studio 15 or 17. I sent my first one back because it had physical defects and also the Montevina update had just come out.

Anyway, I had some questions, please answer to those you know.

1.) Does EVERY Dell Studio 1737 with the Bluetooth option, ship with the Bluetooth module seperate or already installed in the machine? Some posters have said they get the BT module shipped serperatly. Does the Studio 1537 ship with the BT module installed?

2.) Does the Studio 1737 now have eSATA, or is it only on the Studio 1537?

3.) I was wanting to now try the Windows 64-bit OS, will I have problems, or a ton of problems with 64-bit over 32-bit? I want to actaully utilize 4GB RAM.

4.) Is the Studio 1737 ready to work when received like the Studio 1537, despite the Studio 1537 being out a little longer?

5.) Do 64-bit Window OS for the Dell Studio ship with 64-bit recovery discs, or do the discs contain both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers.

6.) Is it worth getting the Studio 1737 now or later? I would like to get it now, but is it "fully baked"?

I'd like to hear the answers to these, too, but I don't think there are too many 1737s floating around yet

    I don't have a 1537 or 1737 so I'll offer general answers where I can.

    1. I don't really get this question. I've never had Dell ship an internal module separately from the rest of the machine (when ordered as a whole). If you can point to some threads on the issue I'll say it was probably a fluke, but if it happened I can't say if it will or will not happen again (I don't work for Dell).

    2. Do a search and figure it out. I have the eSATA port on my 1535, but it is said to be disabled and I haven't gotten it working (though I will try over my break).

    3. I have been running 64-Bit Windows Vista for over a year on all my personal machines (see sig) and I doubt you'll have any problems.

    4. What do you mean ready to work? I'm sure it will turn on an work, otherwise return it.

    5. I would imagine if you ordered it with 64-bit OS the disks would all be 64bit related, otherwise I can't say. I never use the drivers disk (I prefer to download newer drivers from Dell online) so I don't know what my current disk has.

    6. I don't know what fully baked means, but the classic rules of tech purchasing applies... "Buy as much technology as you need it when you need it." As there will always be newer, better, technology coming down the pipeline if you wait just a little longer.

The industry, in general, get refreshes every 6 months.

First of all I´m german :)

    1) I guess every 1737 has the bluetooth option. On my machine ist was installed...

    2) It DOES have eSata. Didn´t know that, too. That was the first thing that impressed me when I unboxed it :)

    3) You´ll have no problems. I installed Vista ULTIMATE x64 and it works fine. But I had problems finding the x64 driver for the Broadcom LAN controller. It wasn´t listed under "Studio 1737" on the dell-download-page so you have to go to "Studio 1537" - there´ll you find the x64 driver.

    4) My machine works well ;)

    5) Ships with Premium 32bits... Not sure about the driver though. But you can get them on the net.

    6) It´s Christmas time and dell is reducing prices so I recommend getting one now.

Pretty sure dell doesn't support 64 bit on these.

my 1737 also shipped the bluetooth module separately (I haven't gotten the 1737 yet, but I got the module today). Odd. I've never installed one before, and it didn't come with any instructions, so hopefully the net is helpful.

They are selling them with the 64bit operating system installed now .......... so I would say they most likely ARE supporting them with 64bit
